From what I've heard its the opposite, he doesn't want Phelan as the DOF/Tech Dir at all, just as an assistant, why would he want to put his assitant now as his boss in the future ?
Got a feeling the if any move towards a DOF, it will be from someone who isn't being mentioned.
Bad (or good) example but they need a Commoli of sorts who has connections with agents/clubs that can be used to shift the deadwood....I make no apologies, this is me

Your snippets about Utd are always interesting - you used to work for MEN didn't you?Originally posted by Deano View PostFrom what I've heard its the opposite, he doesn't want Phelan as the DOF/Tech Dir at all, just as an assistant, why would he want to put his assitant now as his boss in the future ?

It's true though. Big Mike Phelan or Rio would be laughable. They need a coherent football philosophy but just as much they need someone with a network with agents and club presidents.
There's a saying - if you can't spot the fool in the market it's probably you. Or 'it's you, and Raiola knows it and wants a new wing in his house'Last edited by Saveloy; 02-05-19, 10:16 PM.

In fairness Maguire and Trippier would probably improve them a bit, but that more tells you about the level that they are currently at. Pickford I just don't get the obsession with, I can get why Everton signed him (he looked a promising young keeper at Sunderland who they thought that they could improve and either keep for a while as their number 1 or sell on to a big club if he made it big, but really a midtable side like Everton is probably his level, he makes mistakes but even if you ignored those he's still not a top keeper.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostSee that report recently that claimed Woodward wants to sign a big chunk of the England World Cup squad. Wants Trippier big time, also Maguire and.........Pickford. Imagine
Those three would probably cost £150m
and two of them would be slight improvements on what they have at the moment. I'd love it to happen as they would probably blow a significant amount of their budget on players that won't make much difference.
For me the two key issues for them this summer are 1. How much they get for the players they sell - it looks like Pogba, Lukaku, Sanchez and DeGea could all go, Pogba and DeGea they could get big money for Lukaku they could probably get £30-40m for (given we got 30m for Benteke a few years ago) and Sanchez they will have to give away and pay half of his wages
The sales of those players would probably more or less cover Trippier, Maguire and Pickford
Presumably they will give Solskjaer money to spend on top of that. 2. Is the quality of the players that they can bring in. Without CL football they will struggle to bring in top quality if those players above are the level of players that they are looking at then they will still be in a battle for the top 4. It looks like they could get caught in the trap we were in for so long.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
