I'd like to think there might be a development opportunity for someone younger and cheaper . . and no worse . . either from the ranks or sourced from outside.
I should imagine Herr Klopp has some idea about the emerging talent in the Bundesliga for example. We might even be able to tempt a club with a loan / sale swap with one of our current loanees; it seems to be quite the thing currently for young Brits to follow in he footsteps of Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

If this younger player comes in on less £s and ends up having to play then the moaning on here about the fact we should have better choice will be endless.
Some people just don’t like/rate Lovren, which is fine. He seems a big part of the squad and morale, (and he is Salah’s best mate) I will be very surprised if he is moved on.
Klopp is not a ‘champ manager’ wheeler dealer type of coach.Modifying post.

That’s whyOriginally posted by dom9 View PostWhy not?
But in reality..........for me Lovren is a liability so regardless of salary he shouldn’t be near the team. We’d be better off buying a young centre back we can develop in for a third of the salary. VVD, Gomez and Matip can play the majority of games fitness allowing.
The only worry I’d have is his friendship with Mo and upsetting the squad as Moreno is gone and he was also popular

Same applies for Lallana although he is probably only playing 5% of our games
So we probably can't get a better fourth choice but he's a liability.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostThat’s why

It’s his Croatian loyalty to his brat (spelling) I guessOriginally posted by fidget View PostYou're relentless Dom
He is relentless and I knew I probably shouldn’t have engaged but.....he is right that I contradicted myself. Lazy on my part.
Let me try to articulate myself better
Lovren is an experienced international centre back with good physical attributes but he makes a lot of errors. Against weaker sides he gets away with them generally but against top sides not so much (City away and Spurs away spring to mind). For where we want to get we can’t rely on Lovren and he can be a liability if we had to use him in big games. Added to that he’s on more than £100k, injury prone and approaching his 30s so his sale value is diminishing.
Conversely he has uses - against physical sides he can use his attributes to good effect so he has a use but for me this is out weighed by his negatives. Not many sides would have an experienced international as a fourth choice CB - that was my point I guess but for me his salary shouldn’t warrant him being 4th choice hence why we should sell and use the wages elsewhere.
Probably not good enough for Dom but I’m not replying anymore

Well I think he's worth keeping and that we wouldn't replace him with any better.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostIt’s his Croatian loyalty to his brat (spelling) I guess
