It can be both things cant it? It can be funny, and equally tragic?Originally posted by Kenneth View PostThanks for that, isn't it some kind of mental health awareness day today?
As an example, my mum suffers from Parkinsons. Its a ******* of a disease that will eat away at her until it takes her.
But we call her Shakey and ask her to whip the cream up at Christmas.
*Except Michael, who died.

I know, but it's not an appropriateness/taboo thing. I know accuracy and comedy don't need to be aligned, but the schizophrenia = multiple personality disorder things is so ****ing hackneyed yet totally incorrect. They are different conditions. At least shakey and Parkinson's are related, and it wouldn't be amusing if they weren't.Originally posted by Alex View PostIt can be both things cant it? It can be funny, and equally tragic?

It's too lazy to be funny if nothing else. Like going for pun based on the wrong word. I guess it alone demonstrates the need for more mental health awareness, so people can at least get their jokes right.Last edited by Kenneth; 06-02-20, 01:51 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

This is going off on a Tangent now. But Shakey and Parkinson's are sort of related....but not really. You can have shakes and not Parkinson's and vice versa. My Mum doesnt shake, shes more of a MJ Fox type.
Point being not all jokes have to be accurate, to be funny.
Anyway, I acknowledge its not a fair example from me to bring my personal experience into it. Thats situational to Her and I. I wouldnt do the same jokes to some of her friends in the support groups. So I take the point.*Except Michael, who died.

It is accurate though. Tremor is a very common symptom of Parkinson's. The association is not bunk unlike...Originally posted by Alex View PostThis is going off on a Tangent now. ...and that's partly because people keep making these jokes innit?Originally posted by Alex View PostAlso, I think a vast vast majority of people still think Split Personality is the same as Schizophrenia. I did until I just looked into it.

Arguably I wouldn't have looked into it, if it wasn't for the joke. So if anything, it was educationalOriginally posted by Red_Polo View PostIt is accurate though. Tremor is a very common symptom of Parkinson's. The association is not bunk unlike...
