The usual dance I guess - unless (completely wishful thinking on my part) Klopp's been in his ear, asking him to wait 6 months so we can make a proper bid for him, once finances are clearer and squad players have been sold

I think it's just part of the way things go with big deals. Completely distance themselves, and bidding club linked with alternatives, and in a few days, bang, everything's magically agreed.

The names of Werner, Havertz, Sancho and Pulisic all annoy me alright. Especially Pulisic - i think he'd have been brilliant for us.

However, I think that all of these guys have gone for the money. Our approach seems to be based on performance related pay. So our guys can make serious wedge if they - and the team - do well. I think that is what has helped us create this amazing team atmosphere and spirit. I think that is why we didn't get Werner and probably why we didn't even sniff at Sancho.

I dunno, I don't think Chelsea is a bad destination at the mo.

Lampard is still learning but given the circumstances I think he did a fantastic job and the players seem to love playing for him.

I think they may actually have a formula to build something. Of course it could all collapse which would be much better.

It's a difficult one to evaluate really, they are moving in the right direction, and they got the CL spot by finishing 4th. 66 points to get 3rd/4th is really quite low based on recent years, in 2018 we finished 4th with 75 points, the year before Arsenal missed out on top 4 with 75pts. Obviously they have done enough to get the CL and that will help them attract players. I don't really have a good feeling for how much teams like Chelsea and Man Utd are closing the gap on us and City. The lockdown break gave everyone at those clubs a chance to regroup and focus on getting CL football for a few weeks almost in a bubble, will that continue over a full season?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think Chelsea are a bit like us - they'll be transformed with the addition of a commanding centre back and a top class keeper

Maybe it's difficult to tell, they spent a record fee on a GK not long ago and that didn't work out. It felt like for the best part of 20 years we were just needed that 'last piece of the jigsaw'

They remind me a little of a Kevin Keegan era Newcastle (or Brendan Rogers era us)- we'll not worry about conceding, just try and score as many goals as we can.

From a player perspective you might be spot on

The big difference for me is the quality of the manager. Klopp was proven and just needed time once he had his players, for me the jury is very much out on Lampard

He hasn't proven he can set up a team to be both defensively solid and effective in attack

                            More of the same.

But we've all seen this kind of thing before, only for a deal to miraculously happen.
                            Oh I don't know.

I wonder if Sancho has realised this season is going to be an odd one anyway, and that putting off his move until next season when there may be more options (even that Man U may have improved) is not a bad idea.

Certainly felt like it was nearly done and then this.

Madness to spend £100m when the future of spectators returning to football and further lockdowns is unforeseeable.
