When you read about the debt it's unbelievable.

Also, worth a scroll down to the bottom to see the SoFi Stadium video

No chance, imagine the kick back when taxes are going up....

But this idea hasn't been popular in Whitehall and it seems very unlikely that it will happen, according to The Times. While public money could be used to improve the area around Old Trafford, it seems it wouldn't be used to give United a new stadium.

A source from the government, speaking to The i, said: "It's just not something we'd entertain. The government doesn't tend to fund football stadiums. Where would it end?"

Former Conservative sports minister Tracey Crouch added: "When you have historic football clubs elsewhere in the pyramid on the brink of collapse, it is an astonishing suggestion that taxpayers' money could be spent on one of the richest football clubs in the world because of the underinvestment in its stadium by its billionaire owners."

If the go to 100k there’s no way we can stay at 64k. We need to redevelop the Kenny and the Kop to get up to 80k. We can’t let ourselves fall that far behind again

We are at ~61k now the Anfield Road End is finished, the suggestion floating around for a long time has been that we can't go much beyond that without there being improvements to transport and infrastructure in the area.

Expansion of the Kop would almost certainly require the re-routing of Walton Breck Road and knocking down buildings in surrounding streets there, likewise expansion of the Kenny Dalglish Stand would require the removal of at least a street of houses currently behind it. Not really sure it is much of a goer to be honest
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Didn't we already knock down houses and change infrastructure to redevelop the Main Stand?

Hardly insurmountable. Especially if it could be tied to a broader regeneration of the area.

If they build a 100k capacity stadium for £2Bn it's going to be a ****er.

Spurs stadium is approx 60k and cost £1.2Bn
Sofi is approx 75k and cost $5.5Bn

The club had owned the majority of houses on the road behind the main stand for years, that street was mostly boarded up since at least the late 90's. Because the club had planned / hoped to expand the Main Stand there.

Skerries Road behind the Kenny Dalglish Stand is fully occupied, I imagine it would be a long drawn out process if we were to try and do that, it might be possible, but as I mentioned I think that the really big issue in (significantly) expanding Anfield remains transport and infrastructure

I agree, it’s not straightforward. But we surely we can’t just accept they have 40% more capacity and match day revenue than us because it’s too hard to try and compete. That just gets us back to the 1990s

The government has today canned a load of transport infrastructure, and social care reform, because they can't afford it. So bunging a few hundred million to a football club is looking pretty unlikely.
                          Oh I don't know.

OBR is being beefed up and reviews are now mandatory - unlike under the Tories. Also an Office for Value For Money is being created to look for savings.

I think if public money were used it would have to come from the Mayoral budget as Salford Council are skint. Can’t see it happening.
We are here for a good time not a long time....
