I know people will laugh at this but I honestly think Southgate would improve them, he would at least get them organised defensively (which is their main weakness at them moment) and rely on quality players further up the park doing something to get goals, which to be fair they do have some. He's not going to win them the league but would get them back into the top 6/7 which would be a big step up at the momentOriginally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostYeah but Southgate is waiting in the wings so it's all good.

Viana is done, if Guardiola leaves then you’d suspect Amorim would replace him or AlonsoOriginally posted by Sus View PostI’ve read that Portuguese bloke (Ruben Amorim right?) was lined up for City if / when Guardiola leaves, along with their sporting director Hugo Viana (spelling?). Will obviously depend on what Guardiola ends up doing (but I do think this is his last season)
They were strongly linked to Simone Inzaghi but I don’t see it, I think it’d be Southgate. I also think he’d organise them better but they’ll win **** all

But that is exactly where they are as a team for most of the past decade anyway.
Their finishing positions in the league the past ten seasons
8, 3, 6, 2, 3, 6, 2, 6, 5, 4
They have been floating between CL and EL league placings for the most part, so Southgate coming in and only bringing more of the same would surely be a failure.
If he gets in, we all need to start raising the bar and saying the title is the very least he needs to win
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

They need major overhaul of players as well as management to get to challenging for the title. They need steady progress towards getting back into the top 4. They have made the CL in half of those years but usually follow it up with a 6th place or so the following season. Last season they slipped outside the top 6/7 and at the moment the look like doing that again, IMO they need* a season or two to establish themselves back in the top 6/7 and a couple of years to try and push for top 4 and build from there.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostBut that is exactly where they are as a team for most of the past decade anyway.

* assuming you are looking at it from their perspective, for me I am happy to see them where they are at the moment, and I wouldn't be unhappy to see them drop further
Having to have put up with them winning everything in the 90's I am making the most of them being **** now.

Compared to their attack, their defensive record is almost elite. Only Southampton and Ipswich have scored fewer goals and Wolves, sitting with 2 single points, having faced much stronger teams, have scored 50% more goals than them.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI know people will laugh at this but I honestly think Southgate would improve them, he would at least get them organised defensively (which is their main weakness at them moment) and rely on quality players further up the park doing something to get goals, which to be fair they do have some. I'm sure Ajax have a few more forwards out on loan somewhere that they can recall and sell to United for some record fees.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
