    Segregation barriers at Hillsborough

    What the ****?

    Trial barriers in place

Posted on: Thu 05 Jan 2012

South Yorkshire Police, working in partnership with Sheffield Wednesday, will be trialling crowd control segregation barriers on the Leppings Lane apron on Sunday 8 January at the FA Cup match v West Ham.

The barriers are to be trialled and then considered for use at the Steel City derby at Hillsborough in February.

Crowd control issues at Sunday's game are not anticipated but this match offers an opportunity to test the barriers in situ at a match where a large away support is expected before the second Sheffield derby this season.

Wednesday supporters occupying the South Stand for this weekend's cup-tie match should also be aware they will be unable to exit via Leppings Lane at the end of the game and should leave the ground through the car park via Penistone Road, or over the bridge on to Parkside Road and Catchbar Lane.

    Thank you for your co-operation.

I'm sure I must be missing something here, but what are segrgation barriers, and what impact do they have if a stand is all seated?

Is it a permanent fence between sets of seats? If there is no risk of overcrowding because there is at most one spectator per seat, is this a danger?

Or is the problem that SW feels fans should be better segregated despite the almost complete elimination of in-ground violence in recent years?

Honest question - as I say, I may well be missing a point here.
              Oh I don't know.

Having a look around the net it seems that they are barriers outside the ground at the away end to stop home and away fans mixing on route to/from the match.

The barriers apparently are like these:

which I've seen used outside various football grounds. It seems the statement was badly worded. You would have hoped they would have been more careful with wording involving barriers given the disaster.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

They put them up outside Goodison AFTER the Bluenoses have gone in to stop the ****ers escaping!
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.
