      if the ball is there to be won then surely a player must go for it. if he times it right then all ok. if he is second to the it, then he will contact where the ball was. if this means he now is making contact with the other player then that if a foul. if the player had dived in two footed then it is potentially a leg breaking foul. this is why they want to outlaw the two footed challenge.
      i can fully understand the need to ban two footed challenges, but referees do not understand the fact that a sliding challenge is still good footballing skills, so long as its timed right. refs prefer to err on the side of caution, as they fear the retribution of the tv replays, pundits [sic] and the referees assessors.

      imho, the company challenge was fully fair, and johnson could have been yellow carded, even though there was no contact and he was first to the ball.

        Tackling should be outlawed. I cant wait for the day the only thing we see on the pitch is someone 'shielding' the ball out of play!
