There's a difference if a comedian does it, where it is obviously said tongue-in-cheek or whether a footballer does it publicly on Twitter and he's not a comedian, so he can more than likely offend someone, because it's not exactly the Apollo is it? Furthermore, it's about a fellow sportsman and sports has a history of homophobia, especially football and to a lesser extent rugby and to NOT be aware of this delicate issue is reason enough to suspend him. But that's just my opinion and to be honest, who the **** is Lee Steele any way? He'll have made enough money, he's 38, so whatever.

The internet is for discussion. Shall I shut up Dom?

IMO This is more of a Black and White debate than Suarez. Homophobia in Football has driven a man too suicide.

Maybe it is, but its not a hateful comment and as long as gay presenters and comedians make a living out of cracking jokes based on stereotypes then who are we to say a heterosexual can't crack jokes based on these same stereotypes. . If some maneater woman was in there and he said, "I wouldn't fancy sleeping next to her #padlockmypants" he'd still be in employment.

I have gay mates, the make similar comments all the time. This is just him trying to be funny, nothing hateful, he wasn't encouraging anything hateful.

I don't think there is a difference at all, he was trying to be funny, nothing more, and who says we can't crack jokes on twitter just because we're not professional comedians. Just my opinion as well

I don't know who the feck he is either.

                  Not at all.

We're comprehensively, and inconclusively starting to cover the various discriminations.

                  Next up, ageism?

The example your giving explains itself. If it was a woman he was commenting on he wouldn't be in as much trouble. Thats because they are both Heterosexual. Same would be if Lee Steele was gay. It wouldn't be such an issue.

But as I said before, tell the people on the end of such comments that these things arnt damaging. Because Id wager that they would beg to differ.

Indeed. But not proportionate with the sanction of being sacked imo.

                                Agreed

If it was overtly hateful homophobia, maybe, but this seems more ignorance than anything.
