This and The Internet Law thread in the Library are great for finding out about personalities on EST..

    Always Great to Debate..

Personally I think he was out of order with the comment, given he was in the public eye but it's down to his club/manager when deciding what to do..

People will pick and choose when it suits their argument..

homophobia is wrong. racism is wrong. bullying is wrong. but some times people need to realise the situation in which something is being said. there is not a single ounce of aggression or malice or hate etc.. in what lee steele has tweeted. it is said so blatantly obviously in a jovial way.

i dont so much agree with an earlier comment someone said about "people needing to man up" but i do think the PC brigade in this country need to chill out a bit and not take every single quote seriously all the time. if every quote like this tweet is taking serioulsy then i wager half the population would be sacked!
Both are jokes at the respective people's expense, both are homophobic. Does there need to be a difference, have people suggested there is/isn't? Not following your thinking, they are both wrong, what makes you bring it up?

no difference between this and the elton john thing either, they're both embarrassing and needless. a mob is no less wrong, just slightly harder to punish.
Why hasn't Craig been in here with the Ginger quote?
Maybe he's to busy tied up with the whole piracy issue..

I only bring it up as Elton john himself laughed the song off and if the person who the chant is aimed at doesn't mind then why the clamour over this.

SIR ELTON JOHN laughs off homophobic jokes about his sexuality in the British media. The bespectacled singer, 59, wasn't surprised when British newspaper The Sun published a story regarding his civil partnership ceremony with DAVID FURNISH last December (05) with the double entendre: 'Elton takes David up the aisle'. John says, "A lot of people have found it offensive, but I wasn't here. "I'd already gone (to Venice) by then. It's par for the course. What would you expect from them? "Come on, you've got to have a sense of humour, for Christ's sake." John insists the newspaper headlines couldn't be worse than his time as chairman of English soccer team Watford FC, when the fans were less than keen to accept his lifestyle. He recalls, "There used to be a chant at Watford when I went: 'Don't sit down while Elton's around or you might get a penis up your a**e' (sung to the tune of MY OLD MAN SAID FOLLOW THE VAN). I don't think you can get much better than that."

The bit I.highlighted is relevant.....we have to have a sense of.humour. these jokes are humourous and nothing.else.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

sir elton john can afford to be happy. not everybody is that confident or happy to be laughed at. i don't see why people have to be ready to laugh at anything in this day and age just so people can make what can only be described as asshole jokes. they're insulting, and fair enough elton john is a very public figure getting into his later years. i'm sure he's heard it all before and good for him for not letting himself get bothered by it. not many people are in that position though. it's also one thing to be a gay musician and another to be a gay athlete. the music community is not too terribly well known for it's homophobia, but sport is.

I just think about it from the victims perspective. Fair enough one comment isn't enough too upset you. But if you have it all the time from lots of people it gets a bit much. People like Thomas should be applauded for coming out and making a stand. Not ridiculed. Im sure there are plenty of other sportsmen who keep it under-wraps because of the fear of ridicule. This is why Lee Steele's tweet is wrong. It shouldn't be tolerated.

I don't think that headline is anywhere near as homophobic as Lee Steele's tweet or the Watford song. As far as I can see, all Elton John has done is try to shrug it off, good on him. He points out how he can deal with the headline with ease considering the song he had aimed at him - you might call that laughing it off or implying that he "doesn't mind", but I'd say it's a sign he has had worse prejudice to overcome. He might well have done so admirably and as I say good for him, the point is he shouldn't have to.
