Chelsea midfielder taken to hospital
Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been taken to hospital after suffering an ankle injury during training with Belgium.
De Bruyne will undergo scans on his ankle to confirm the extent of the injury just a day after Belgium and Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany was ruled out for a month.

As well as the Blues midfielder and City defender, boss Marc Wilmots has been forced to contend with a number of injury problems ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Croatia.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini was told he requires wrist surgery after scans revealed the extent of his injury, but is set to play, while Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke could feature against Wales next Tuesday night, despite sitting out of the last two matches for his club.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho calls West Bromwich Albion's Jonas Olsson 'a Mickey Mouse player'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho sparked a 20-man tunnel bust-up at Stamford Bridge on Saturday when he branded West Bromwich Albion's Jonas Olsson "a Mickey Mouse player"

Jose Mourinho sparked a huge tunnel bust-up at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening after branding West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson “a Mickey Mouse player”.

The Chelsea manager was rounded on by a furious Olsson after making the remark as the two teams left the field after a stormy 2-2 draw and Telegraph Sport understands there was a confrontation involving almost 20 players, with Chelsea stewards and staff members stepping in to act as peacemakers.

Olsson and Mourinho squared up to each other outside the dressing rooms and had to be pulled apart by team-mates and stewards after the Chelsea manager’s comment infuriated the Sweden international.

Olsson had told Mourinho to “f*** off” before the insult, after the Chelsea manager had pointed out that Stéphane Sessègnon’s second goal for West Brom was also fortuitous due to a refereeing decision, and the pair were face to face before being separated.

Gareth McAuley and another Albion player also confronted Mourinho before they were calmed down by team-mates and returned to the visitors’ dressing room in a bad-tempered end to the controversial draw.

Liam Ridgewell and West Brom’s assistant manager Kevin Keen then became involved in a row with stewards as the anger threatened to boil over.

West Brom were already frustrated after Andre Marriner awarded a controversial 94th minute penalty, which was converted by Eden Hazard to secure a point and prevent Steve Clarke’s team from registering their first league win at Chelsea since 1978.

Mourinho was walking back to the dressing room when he is believed to have made the “Mickey Mouse” insult, resulting in angry scenes between the two groups of players.

He allegedly made other derogatory comments during his stand-up row with Olsson before the pair were pulled apart before punches were thrown, although they later shook hands when Albion were boarding the team coach.
Mourinho later sniped at Albion in his post-match press conference, insisting “they are a team to finish in mid-table, every point for them is a great point”.
Clarke’s team, however, had already won at Manchester United this season and came agonisingly close to condemning Mourinho to his first ever home defeat in the Premier League.

The visitors had led 2-1 for more than 25 minutes before Ramires appeared to fall over in the box after a collision with Steven Reid, with Marriner pointing to the spot and sparing Mourinho a second league defeat in a row.

The performance of Marriner, the Birmingham-based official, infuriated the Albion players and coaching staff after he was drafted in as a late replacement for Lee Probert, who had been ruled out with a knee injury.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited were forced to issue a statement to clear up the appointment after the game, after Marriner had admitted he supported Villa as a youngster.

Marriner has not apologised to Clarke for the contentious penalty decision and is not believed to have included the post-match trouble in his official match report.

It is the second time this season that Mourinho has infuriated opponents at Stamford Bridge. He was sent to the stands late in the 4-1 win over Cardiff City in October by referee Anthony Taylor and fined £8,000 for improper conduct.

Clarke, Mourinho’s former assistant who helped the club lift two league titles, an FA Cup and two league cups, was not involved in the scenes in the tunnel and has urged his players to recover from Saturday evening’s controversy.

He said: “We had the three points in the palm of our hand and it was taken away quite cruelly. So I’m angry, frustrated and sad for my team because they deserved to break another hoodoo.

“It was 1978 that we last had a win at Stamford Bridge and it would have been great to break that hoodoo like we did earlier in the season at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think you can linger or look back for too long. We have to just move on, take all the good bits from this game and move on to what should be a good derby against Villa.

“Referees are human and I’m not one for criticising them but I hope over the course of the season we get our fair share of decisions.”

A spokesman for the Football Association said he was unaware of any incident that could result in action or an investigation.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has said that the “different profile” of Chelsea fans has led to a poor atmosphere at the club’s home matches.

He believes Stamford Bridge regulars are as passionate about their team as supporters of any other club but admitted they do not demonstrate that passion through vocal support.

Mourinho is the second manager of a major Premier League club this season to remark on the lack of atmosphere generated by his team’s fans. Last month, Andre Villas-Boas accused Tottenham Hotspur’s home fans of “negativity”.
Mourinho said he was delighted with the way the home crowd helped Chelsea to recover a 2-2 draw in the final stages of their game against West Brom, but that “normally”, the crowd were relatively muted.

“This is Stamford Bridge’s nature,” Mourinho told the Fulham Chronicle. “We know that our fans are in love with the club, more than in any other club or the same, but it is a different profile.
