Director says Spurs will not stand in Redknapp's way over England
Tottenham non-executive director Sir Keith Mills believes it would be unworkable for manager Harry Redknapp to adopt a part-time role with England.
Spurs boss Redknapp is the bookies' odds-on favourite to take over from Fabio Capello after the Italian resigned over the FA's decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy.
Mills says it will be Redknapp's decision to take the role if it is offered but everyone at the club wants him to stay at White Hart Lane.
Asked about him carrying out the England role part-time, he told Sky Sports News: "I don't think that's really workable."
Mills added the club have received no approach from the FA as far as he was aware.
"We can't do anything and neither can Harry until the FA have decided on their short list," he said.
"We've said to Harry - and frankly Harry's said to us - that he loves the club, we love him at the club, the spectators love him, the players love him, the coaches love him, we all want him to stay, it's a fantastic job, he loves it.
"But I guess there's something special about being the England manager and I don't know whether, ultimately, he'll make that decision.
"At the end of the day, it'll be Harry's decision.
"You can't force somebody to do a job to be honest and it doesn't matter what the contract says, if somebody's heart is somewhere else and it doesn't matter whether it's a player or a manager, you need to let them go.
"But Harry has a contract with the club and provided the FA honour that contract, we'll be just fine."

Sir Alex Ferguson surprised by Premier League's England letter
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the Premier League has asked all its managers not to discuss the vacant England job.
Tottenham's Harry Redknapp had been described by Ferguson as "the best man" to replace former coach Fabio Capello.
But the Premier League has written to top-flight managers at the request of Spurs asking them not to discuss England candidates under contract.
"You can't believe [I've been sent a letter], can you?" said Ferguson.
Asked why he had received the warning, he said: "I've absolutely no idea. I'm not supposed to discuss it."
He then joked: "So I'm out of the running."
Ferguson is among a host of Premier League managers and players to have backed Redknapp for the England job following Capello's resignation on 8 February.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish and Newcastle's Alan Pardew have supported the 64-year-old's credentials for the post, as well as England and Manchester United players Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand.
But the Premier League told BBC Sport it is in its rules that club officials should not comment on other clubs' contracted employees.
"There is no doubt Harry Redknapp is the best man," Ferguson said last month. "He has the experience and personality and the knowledge of the game. He has changed the fortunes of every club he has been at."
While the Football Association insists it has not spoken to any potential candidates to replace Capello, it intends to make an appointment at the "back end of the season".
Redknapp admitted he is "flattered" to be linked to what he regards as the "ultimate job for an Englishman".
WHAT THEY SAID
Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson: "There is no doubt Harry Redknapp is the best man. He has the experience and personality and the knowledge of the game. He has changed the fortunes of every club he has been at."
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: "I really hope Harry and Spurs and everybody sorts themselves out and can do it in a manner in which it works for everybody."
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish: "If I was in their [FA's] position I'd be looking at the best one [manager] and if it's not available then start going down from there. Harry would be fantastic."
West Brom manager Roy Hodgson: "Harry's receiving the backing from virtually all quarters - he's had a very good period of time now with Tottenham and he's got a lot of backing from a lot of people in the country."

Hodgson advocates long-term view
(UKPA) – 1 hour ago
Roy Hodgson has urged the Football Association board to look for qualities beyond current results when weighing up candidates to be the next England manager.
West Brom head coach Hodgson's name has been linked with the post this week after a series of fine victories, including last weekend's shock 1-0 success over Chelsea. Former FA chairman Lord Triesman has backed Hodgson, whose side visit Manchester United on Sunday, to succeed Fabio Capello.
But Hodgson hopes the four man FA board weigh up all the ingredients that will make a successful international manager and pay no attention to a few good or bad results. Hodgson said: "I think we are in a business when the person who happens to be in the ascendancy in a brief moment in time is going to be the name on everyone's lips."
He added: "That certainly wasn't the case for me during long periods of this year. Now we've had a couple of good results maybe my name is being thought of a little bit more highly.
"But I've got to say that jobs and judgements on people should go beyond whether you are on a winning run and losing run.
"If you are going to be in football for a long period of time you are going to have winning and losing runs, times when people are singing your name and days when singing someone else's name.
"If we are talking about top quality jobs in English football, including the actual England job, it will be a case for people to research the profile and the type of person they want to do the job.
"That should go beyond whether you have won or lost the last few games."
Hodgson is reluctant to make any comment on whether he would be interested in the England role unless he receives an actual approach from the FA.
He said: "You never rule yourself out of jobs you've never been offered and there is no point in speculating on jobs that may be available. This one is available but there is no point in speculating on your candidacy until someone approaches you and asks if you are interested."Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
