How the mighty fall. One time Brazilian national team striker and Inter Milan hit-man, Adriano is now essentially under house arrest - in a bid to control his eating habits.

Currently at Corinthians, the powerful striker has been ordered to stay inside the team's hotel, as the club try to make him lose weight.

Adriano will eat three meals a day, prescribed by the team nutritionist, along with specifically chosen snacks sent to his room.

Corinthians physical trainer Fabio Mahseredjian explained: 'We locked him here because this way we can have more control of what he eats, of how he rests', adding: 'You can only lose weight if you stop eating.'

He will follow a separate diet from his team-mates, and according to Mahseredjian, understands why this needs to happen to him.

'He knows we are trying to do what's best for him', he said. 'But he also needs to do his part. He needs to know that the older you get, the harder it is (to keep fit).'

Corinthans coach Tite said: 'We are doing everything we can to give him a chance to get better.'

He is not the only member of the 2006 Brazil World Cup squad to have problems regarding his weight - Ronaldinho and notoriously Ronaldo have struggled in this regard.
