If so, it sounds like this could be a possibility for next year.

So long as the ref has the option to give a red inside the box too, because some offences will warrant a pen and a sending off imo.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Doesn't that exist already though, ie it's called going to the game

The review idea by each team isn't a dreadful idea but making the comparison to tennis and cricket is a good comparison. In cricket and tennis the ball is dead between points, which gives time to analyse the previous point. Doing it in football would kill the game.

However, retrospective punishment for diving, goal line technology and fouls could be introduced easily. There's usually a dead ball situation every five minutes or so and in that period a reversed decision could be made. It'd only work in the top level though so I can't imagine it's ever going to make it as they like to impliment rules that can be used in all levels of the game.

A 4th official in a control room would work better and bin the 4th official being on the pitch side. Poor decisions should be reversable too, another good idea.

Best idea of all though is the referee's stop watch and no added time.

Novel idea, not sure what I make of it yet.

I also like the idea of a bonus point for any team managing 10 attempts on target during a game but it shouldn't be confined to a draw. However, I think teams should be docked a point if they fail to have 5 attempts on goal in a 0-0 draw

Only for incidents where a goal is scored or there is a red card - there is ALWAYS enough of a pause in the game when either of the 2 incidents occur for them to be reviewed as we see the replays at least 10 times anyway. Why not let a TV Ref correct mistakes while we see the replays over & over again?
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

I don't see what's wrong with a Flag system like they have in American Football. If a team wants to appeal a decision, they stick their flag up or throw it on the field, the ref should then be notified by the 4th official who stops play. The decision is then reviewed by the video ref who then decides whether the team were right to appeal, if the decision goes their way, they keep their right to appeal, if it's wrong they lose it for the rest of the game and the team who the appeal was against get an indirect free kick.

              Nothing too complicated about that.

You would have to limit the use of such a system to 'big moments' (goals, red cards etc) as what would stop a manager throwing his flag to get the game stopped when an opposition player was through on goal to challenge the call made on a throw in (or something) in the build up.

If you are going to limit something like that to big moments, usually play has been stopped for these moments so would it not be more appropriate to have do like they do in American football and have a scoring review? Where every goal has to be confirmed by the video ref.

Also the system works in American football because the referees have microphones so that they can explain their decisions something like that would also need to be included for any similar system to work.

It still only applies to the top level of the game, so I can't see it being implemented. Sadly

Allow players to beat the crap out of each other like in ice hockey. Games gone soft.

Far to much handbags theses days, need to get back to the butchery of the 60's and 70's
