    Pulis escapes driving ban

    Pretty terrible this...

Pulis pleads relegation to dodge driving ban

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has dodged a driving ban after his lawyer won an extraordinary argument in court.

Pulis was clocked doing 96mph in his BMW in a 60mph zone on the M42 after seeing his men thrashed 5-0 at Bolton, an offence that saw him exceed 12 points on his licence - and should therefore have earned him an automatic ban.

But according to a report in The Sun, his solicitor Mike Stephenson successfully argued to magistrates that Pulis would be so badly affected by losing his licence that it would put the club in danger of relegation - a punishment which would affect a huge number of people, businesses who have sunk £60 million into the club and several charities that Pulis supports up and down the country.

"They would suffer if they were relegated as a result - and the children who he would not be able to assist and the people of Stoke could suffer if Mr Pulis lost his licence," Stephenson told Leamington Spa Magistrates' Court.

Stoke are currently 14th in the table, 12 points clear of the relegation places with 10 matches left of the season.

Pulis, who is estimated to earn £1m a year, also claimed he could not use a chauffeur in case his driver discovered and then leaked secret details of transfers.

The Stoke boss, whose top-of-the-range BMW is provided free by local dealer Knights, was fined £2,500 but allowed to carry on driving despite now having 15 points on his licence.

Not sure how you can get away with going 36mph over the speed limit and not get banned.

    ****in hell, amazing ruling that.

What if he'd knocked someone over..or had a crash, what about the poor people and charities then...or do they only count for speeding offences ?

Thats ****. My old boss got caught doing 15mph over the limit, and still got banned. Could have totally ****ed the company up. He used to be out on the road seeing customers all the time. Had to get trains and taxis everywhere.

Just an example of money getting you off paying your dues.
      *Except Michael, who died.

WTF?? I can't believe they let him off because of that
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Let's face it, the football circus seems to be pretty well detatched from the rest of the world. Falling fast out of love with the whole thing, they've become too powerful, too rich and think that their new money deserves them the right to behave how they like.

He's basically said that he uses his time in his car to organise transfer dealings. I thought the idea of a car phone was to be used liberally and for necessity. His privileged position should've been more of a reason to ban him, not less. Let's not forget it's his 4th offence...
