As has been written on here ad nauseum - the circumstances dictated the price.

Anyway, his book value in a years time will be £18m, we only make £1m loss.

It wouldn't be an 18m loss .lads who knows this stuff on twitter state that In a years time Carroll book value will be around 18m so a sale then for 17m is a pretty acceptable loss in my book.

I'd rather he got a chance to show what he can do though.

I agree for sure, and I completely back BR to get this stuff right. That said, you have to replace him with a starter. For his systemic shortcomings, AC is a good striker with a lot of potential who is on the up at last; we need another like that when he goes. If they take a year for the £17m to arrive or do not have a player/ plan in place prior to completing this deal, I think giving AC a shot and paying his wages would be worth it, because he is at least a player with known quantities and could be of use. Shipping him out for cash with no plan to replace would be a) par for this club in recent yeas and b) another mistake. All I am saying.

If we can get £2m for a 12 month loan and a commitment to buy for £17m, then we should do it. Better to give him a year of first team football rather than (another) 12 months on the bench.

**** it - we got Andy Carroll for nothing and £15M spending money for ourselves. There's no loss on him. If the owners aren't blocking BR from doing what he believes to be right, then that's the bigger picture. Seems like FSG are of the opinion that the manager/football people should have a free hand but if they **** it up at all, they're gone.

What if he gets another bad injury in the year he's on loan, we're stuck then.

Sell him and don't take the risk, please.

Yeah but brenners doesn't want him so best to move on. All our signings are key now. Shows how badly we did last summer for what ever reason.

This move will be judged on Carroll's goal tally set against whoever "Bren-Ro" (I'll throw that into the mix) brings in and how he does. I can't see Andy going and us relying on Borini and Suarez.

Yes in purely accounting terms carroll is worth exactly 17m which means that we wont lose another 17m in this years accounts plus whatever they would write off this year.

But in the real world we are losing 18m on a player and no clever accounting procedures can hide that.

Lets imagine the worst case scenario in that rodgers completely makes a mess of this and is sacked at the end of the season. New guy comes in and wants to use a target man.

Weve just lost 18m on one that we already had at the club.

Its right that fsg back managers but you can you let them make such massive decisions that quickly. Reminds me a little of the avb thing with alex. Singling out a young and popular player so ruthlessly wont help him especially if we have a rocky start.

So we should have a squad in Stand by just in case.

Seems very strange especially as Rodgers seems to want the type of player many of us said we should have

We funded Newcastle's move up the table last summer.

This summer we are sending a player on loan to a club which came above us.

I am finding it difficult to rationalize this.
