Suarez on his own is worth the so called £35m so realistically if we could get back £22m for Carrol then we break even. Letting him go on loan for one season saves £4m in wages, then sell him for £18 and Bobs your Aunty. Simples.

Keepers are more important than strikers
Er, could be yes. It was more about me just being a bit daft and mischiveous. If the keeper was'nt there all the goals would have gone into an empty net except they wouldn't have..as another keeper would have been playing, sort of making the point with RVP, if he hadn't been there to score the goals..someone else would have been playing as striker and done the job, so they'd have finished higher than 16th really, well probabaly.

LIVERPOOL FC have rejected an approach by Newcastle United to take record signing Andy Carroll back on loan.

At this stage the Reds are only considering offers for the permanent transfer of the £35m man and so the bid from the North East was given short shrift.

Contrary to widespread reports, the St James’ Park side had shown no intent to make the deal permanent at the end of the season-long loan, with Liverpool only receiving an approach to take the 23-year-old England forward until the end of the campaign.

The ECHO understands Newcastle’s bid was not particularly enticing anyway with Alan Pardew’s men not ready to pay all of the player’s wages over the course of the proposed deal.

Liverpool were not commenting on the story last night but by rejecting the bid they have made it clear that loan moves for Carroll are unlikely to be entertained.

As it stands, the 6’3” targetman remains a Liverpool player and still plans to join the squad in Boston next week for the second leg of the Reds’ North American tour.

Carroll joined Liverpool from the St James’ Park side for a club record £35m in January last year but has failed to convince in his short stay on Merseyside.

The striker found form towards the end of last season, a run which included the winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final against Everton and a blistering performance as a substitute in the final, but new manager Brendan Rodgers has hinted Carroll may not necessarily be part of his plans.

And last week’s signing of Italian forward Fabio Borini was an indication that the Gateshead-born forward could find his chances limited at Anfield this term.

With 11 goals in 56 games, Carroll has found it hard to live up to his huge transfer fee but has shown the real desire to make his big money move work.

Newly promoted West Ham United and Aston Villa were also thought to be interested in Carroll but with Liverpool not entertaining loan bids, they may now cool their interest.

At this stage it is unclear what the Reds’ asking price for Carroll would be.

Newcastle United move is a ploy to unsettle Andy Carroll and eventually re-sign him for only £12m

It is easy to see why Newcastle United are starting to make it known they are interested in re-signing Andy Carroll from Liverpool. It is a transfer that ticks all the boxes, dots all the Is and crosses all the Ts on Tyneside.

There is nothing Newcastle United fans appreciate more than seeing one of their own playing in the club’s famous black and white stripes and there is nothing more the club’s owner Mike Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias love more than showing off their business acumen.

To bring Carroll back to Newcastle for anything less than the £35 million they sold him for just 18 months ago would be more than just a feather in Ashley’s cap; it would be so much more.

He may have been mocked and goaded on his return to Tyneside last season, but should Carroll come home he will be given a hero’s welcome.

Newcastle fans are a tribal bunch, passionate about where they live and loyal to their kinsfolk. Few respected Carroll’s decision to leave in January 2011, no matter how much money was on the table.

Most felt betrayed, but all will quickly be forgiven should their home grown No 9 decide he wants to be back among his own people. Carroll was genuinely shocked and hurt by the venom that greeted him on his return last season.

The well-wishers and back-slappers which accompanied his many nights out in his home town since his move to Merseyside did not prepare him for the vitriol that greeted him when he appeared in another team’s colours.

That said, from the moment he left for a British record fee on transfer deadline day, Carroll has privately talked about his desire to return to his former club.
He probably felt it would come towards the end of his career, but there is no doubt he would love to come back, even if it is rather sooner than he anticipated.

Newcastle’s hierarchy are well aware of that desire and their loan move for him is designed to manipulate those emotions.

The offer to Liverpool over the weekend is nothing more than a bluff. They are declaring their interest in a player they know they have no chance of signing on a temporary basis and who they do not have the money Liverpool are looking for to let him leave for a season.

Newcastle’s move is designed to rock the boat. It is a move designed to stir Carroll’s inner yearning for a homecoming in the hope he sets his heart on it and does his bit to make it happen.

If Carroll decides he wants to leave Anfield, but will only accept it if it is a one-way ticket back to Tyneside, Newcastle will have prepared fertile ground for a cut-price offer of around £12 million.

Newcastle may even go as high as £15 million, but the idea has always been to sign Carroll on a permanent basis, not on loan.

The question is will Liverpool let it happen? It is difficult to see how Carroll fits in to new manager Brendan Rogers’ style of football and so their willingness to contemplate sending their most expensive player out on loan.

But they are bound to bristle at the possibility he could go back to the club from whom they bought Carroll two years ago for such a high fee.

The Carroll fee is an embarrassment to Liverpool, but it would be even more humiliating for them if they allowed Newcastle to take him back for far less with a smug smile on their face.

That does not mean it will not happen, but Liverpool would surely rather sell to anyone but the club whose coffers they pumped full of cash when they bought the striker for such an over-inflated sum.

As for Newcastle, the attraction in re-signing Carroll is clear, but that does not mean it actually makes sense.

Papiss Cissé wears the No 9 shirt now and has been prolific alongside fellow Senegal striker Demba Ba.

Alan Pardew’s side play a more attractive, quicker style of football now than they used to with Carroll as the focal point of the team and he would not be guaranteed a starting place with those two as rivals.

But sometimes the heart rules the head in football and the sight of Carroll wearing black and white stripes again at the club that found and nurtured him is a bewitching one for those who never wanted to lose him in the first place.

That is a powerful tool that may yet make the most unlikely of deals happen.

ANDY CARROLL wants to make a sensational return to Newcastle United – but only after giving new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers a piece of his mind.

Carroll has told his representatives a simple message: “Take me home.”

The Chronicle understands that Carroll has been told he is not part of Rodgers’ plans at Anfield even though United’s first bid has been rejected.

However, the Magpies will return with another.

The issue that has really disappointed Carroll is that he wasn’t even given pre-season to prove himself to a new manager.

And although Carroll is a self-confessed Toon supporter and former season ticket holder, from a professional point of view being told he can go without being judged fairly has left the player somewhat annoyed.

As Carroll told the Chronicle in January 2011, he never wanted to leave Newcastle to start with.

Now he has told his representatives that Newcastle are at the top of his wish-list and the sooner a move back to Tyneside can be quickened up the better.

Whether United’s interest in Carroll signals the end of the road for Demba Ba remains to be seen.

A close pal of Carroll told the Chronicle last night: “Newcastle are interested – and Andy wants to come home. He’s already told Liverpool that too.

“From a professional point of view Andy is miffed that he wasn’t given the chance to show what he can do in front of new manager Brendan Rodgers.

“He was expecting to get at least pre-season to show what he could offer him.

“He ended last season on a high and wanted to continue that.”

Carroll, at 23, still fits into Newcastle’s blueprint and has never made any secret of his love for the Magpies.

It was only last week that United boss Alan Pardew refused to kill off the rumour at his pre-season Press conference when he said: “We’ll see where Carroll treads the boards next season.

“He did very well for us and he’s had a rough ride from the media at Liverpool.”

A source from the Carroll camp continued: “Andy is still a fan. He never had any intention of quitting Newcastle to start with.”

But there are still a few hurdles yet if the deal is to become a reality.

The loan offer is with a view to a permanent transfer.

Newcastle’s initial offer, which was rejected, was actually closer to £13million despite reports of a lower offer.

However, those close to Carroll know that the saga is far from over.

His £80,000 wages at Liverpool can’t be matched by United – but the player and the club are open to reviewing his payment structure.

As we reported on June 11 in light of interest from AC Milan, the door has always been ajar for Carroll with the striker returning to his beloved St James’ Park on several occasions as a guest in the executive area.

His friendship with Toon managing director Derek Llambias, Pardew and his former team-mates – not to mention John Carver, the man who prevented the club from losing him for free in 2004 during his stint as Academy chief – has remained untarnished.

And the source continued: “Andy’s been told he can go.

“Newcastle have bid and the wheels are in motion.

“Andy knew three days ago of the interest from Newcastle but has been on holiday.

“He’s been keeping an eye on things though and would love to come back.

“Like the rest of the Newcastle fans he’s in awe of Papiss Cisse and would love to create what he feels would be a ‘deadly’ strike-force next season.

“He’s surprised Liverpool don’t want him anymore and doesn’t want to be where he is not wanted.”

As we reported back in January, United retained an interest in Carroll during tougher times for the striker at Liverpool.

Back then figures of a cut-price £15million bid were discussed but then-Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish did not want to part with Carroll, and was determined to prove his own judgement was right.

With Dalglish gone, Carroll was told he has no future under former Swansea manager Rodgers’ footballing philosophy.

And the Academy product is keen to move back to the club he loves – with a return to Tyneside the Geordie boy’s first choice.
Make the cheeky cunts pay £20m.

As suspected, we're playing this through the media.

I expect all offers to be 'leaked', loans to be 'dismissed' and this all to be very, very public.
