Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia has delivered a snub to Andy Carroll by admitting he doesn't rate the club's record signing.
Carroll, 23, has endured a disappointing 18 months at Anfield following his £35million move from Newcastle, scoring just nine goals in 47 Premier League outings.
His misery has been compounded in recent weeks with new boss Brendan Rodgers revealing the England international does not feature in his future plans and inviting offers for the striker.
In an interview with Sport360° earlier this year, ex-Reds striker Robbie Fowler questioned Carroll's temperament in trying to live up to his price tag and now Hyypia has also stuck the boot it.
The Finn, who spent a decade at Anfield between 1999 and 2009, says he would have relished coming up against Carroll. “I can’t say that I am a fan of Andy Carroll," said the 38-year-old, now in charge of German side Bayer Leverkusen.
“If I had to play against him? Well, I would rather that to playing against Luis Suarez, for sure. For the type of player he is, that would suit me better than a player like Suarez.”
Meanwhile, Hyypia, preparing for a return to Anfield for the first time since his emotional exit three years ago on Saturday night, believes it is vital the Reds hold onto fellow Scandanavian Daniel Agger this summer.
The Dane, 27, enjoyed arguably his finest season to date last term, but after a fine Euro 2012 has been the subject of intense interest from a host of clubs, including Manchester City who have already failed with two bids.
Liverpool boss Rodgers admitted last week he could let the defender leave should he receive an offer too good to turn down, but Hyypia is hopeful Agger decides to stay put.
“Daniel Agger is a very, very good centre-half. Hopefully he can stay fit and play the whole season without injury," said Hyypia. "He can then show how good a player he really is."
