Not sure we have an upper hand there.

If he stays and doesn't play his value will diminish even more (and we still may be presented with only loan option next year again or greatly discounted price) so personally if it is a loan deal with stay up option the best we can get I'd go with that but I'd go with guaranteed buyout amount regardless.

In other words, 2m loan + 17m buyout if they stay up or 2m loan + 11-13m buyout if they go down.

    I'd take that.

And that would leave us with exactly who in attack? Suarez? What if/when he gets injured? Borini and who exactly?

Yesil and Morgan, who will find it hard to have a poorer scoring record than Carroll

LoL, two 18-year olds battling it out for Champion League supremacy, well done. Finally back with the powerhouses of European football.

It is hardly like Carroll is any better mate, plus we will have the money to buy someone who may actually prove to be effective.

Andy Carroll: West Ham revive move for Liverpool striker

West Ham are trying to revive a move for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.

More talks have taken place between the clubs over a season-long loan, with a fixed £17m fee should West Ham stay up, but the ball is now in Carroll's court.

Having conceded defeat in their chase earlier this month, West Ham were given signs of encouragement on Thursday.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to raise funds for new signings and made it clear Carroll was a "third choice" striker at Anfield.

He said: "You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see Andy has been a cover player for us and has been excellent in terms of his attitude and acceptance of where he is at.

"But I don't think we are in a position to have £35m players as third-choice strikers, or wingers who are on £5m-£6m a year."

Newcastle's offer to take Carroll on a season-long loan remains on the table, but it remains to be seen if they decided to improve their offer.

Liverpool must raise funds in order to step up their interest in Fulham forward Clint Dempsey, while Arsenal's Theo Walcott also remains a target.

With Charlie Adam attracting interest from Stoke City and Fenerbahce, and Jay Spearing likely to leave on loan to either Bolton or Wolves, Liverpool may be able to free up the funds to make an offer for Dempsey in the next 24 hours.

Carroll will play no part in the Europa League play-off round, second leg against Hearts on Thursday night.

Liverpool are, however, close to completing the signing of 18-year-old striker Samed Yesil from Bayer Leverkusen. The fee for the German Under-18 international is understood to be in the region of £1m.

If we do loan Carroll to West Ham, I hope we're sending Joe Cole there as a sweetener too.

Well we won the thing with Baros, Mellor and Pongolle - so y'know, you never know

I wonder if Kevin Nolan can persuade Carroll to make the move.

Knowing us, we'll ditch Carroll and run out of time to replace him!
