And every time we look at buying them low, selling them high (say with Agger) everyone goes mental. The nature of not being a club that sells its best players is that you'll often lose money on dealings, especially when you do something quite so ridiculous as spend £35m on a £10m striker.

This loan saves/makes us £6-7m, and will mean Carroll gets regular football in a team that will suit him (Jarvis, Nolan etc to supply him, Sam Allardyce tactics) so maintains his value far better than keeping him as a backup player. If Rodgers thinks he has (or will have) enough cover up front without him then for me this move is a good thing.

I guess if you take out all the truly heart wrenching transfers, like Fowler, Torres, Rush et al, this is probably the biggest disappointment for me over the years. Odd, as I didn't think I'd feel like that at all.
        Oh I don't know.

Because of the money? or because you like him and want him to do well?

Both really. Plus I think he could and maybe should have done better. It was just a massive mistake all round.

I don't think he could cope with the price tag plus the Newcastle team was built around him and played to his strengths which we never did.

Having said that he did look to be getting himself together and was playing better becoming more of a threat.

The key now is to get a couple of players in to add some goals as we are well short of those.

I also think he could, and maybe should have been given more of a chance this season.

His injury when he came to us probably set him back too. It was a frustration for everyone.

                      It just wasn't to be.

                      Shame.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We have bought a young striker today BTW.
Phewwww I thought we paid 35 million for him, don't feel so bad now.....how much did we pay ?
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

I think it's plainly clear that Carroll was never going to be a part Rodgers' team, he doesn't fit and doesn't score unless the team is set up for him. Probably the best option for us now to loan him out. If we have a decent season I think next summer will be very interesting for us.
                            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That's fine, but as a squad option even with a team not set up to play to his strengths he should have been capable of chipping in with a few goals, and we need to replace him with someone who is capable of getting more goals than him in this system, and we have 1 day to do it...

But he wasn't doing that, I like him and had faith in him, but I believe we can even replace him with Morgan, he carried that little threat for us.
