I wasn't keen on Carroll when we signed him, but during last season I changed my view on him and was impressed with his end of season performances and also with his attitude to prove himself. Really think there is a decent player in him and he will get better. I would like to have kept him, even if it was just as an option from the bench he was a good asset to have, but Rodgers clearly wanted rid of him. He seems a good guy, I do hope he goes on to have a good season.
It seems that the loan agreed doesn't include an automatic transfer agreement if West Ham stay up and is just an 'option' now. I can see this being down to Carroll not wanting to commit to a permanent transfer. I can understand that from his point of view as having moved to a big club why would you want to drop to a team likely to be fighting relegation. With Newcastle seemingly the only other option with a joke of an offer, I'm happy for us to accept the deal as a loan. Would have hated sending him back to Newcastle on the cheap.
I think the loan deal is a win/win for both parties. I can see him having a really good season at West Ham, no excuses for him to struggle there, they are set up perfectly to his strengths and I can see him banging in the goals there and keeping them up. And if they stay up it will have been worth their investment in him and they can make it a permanent transfer. On the other hand if for whatever reason West Ham don't make it permanent, Carroll will still maintain his market value, and may even increase it with a good season, and we can try selling again next year. He will still have 3/4 years left on his contract, still young, England international, I can't see his value dropping with this loan move.
Obviously the downside of the loan is that we haven't got the money to use now for a replacement. But I'm sure Rodgers wouldn't have let him go if he knew he couldn't replace him. He said last week that he needs 3 strikers. So hopefully we can get someone decent in on loan to get us through this season. I just hope it is a replacement for Carroll, like a proper in the box striker and not just a forward like Dempsey.Last edited by Hammer; 31-08-12, 10:07 AM.

He probably will; they'll stick him in the centre, tell him to stay there and the rest of the players will seek him. I hope he hits the ground running and he'll be away - I wish him all the best.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostAll i'm hearing from non lfc fans is how AC will easily get 15/20 goals for West Ham under Fat Sam.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

This club is badly lacking football experience at it's head.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
