If that's a reference to the football in general, I also agree a bit but not at all sure what to do about it

We spent £35m on Andy Carroll. £35m for a five year deal. And we've given him away for £1m for one year.

      FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must be the only person in the world who is glad he's gone. The 6 goals in 44 league games indicates he will hardly be missed and at least we don't have to pay his wages any more. And even if we sell him for £14m next summer, we would have recouped £19m as West Ham are covering his wages for this season. Good riddance - he was never good enough IMO

He was never good enough, but we haven't replaced him with anyone better.

I'm glad he's gone, at least I would have been if we had bought almost any other striker to replace him. As we haven't, the risk of not having a 3rd real striker, albeit a limited one, far outweighs the money we are saving imo.

There is a risk but we are playing a different system this year and Gerrard is back to playing in an advanced position which I'm pretty sure will mean he gets into double figures in terms of goals which therefore covers the handful of goals that Andy Carroll may or may not have scored.

And in terms of strikers, I'd rather the club took their time in signing the right striker rather than signing any old ****e on deadline day like we did with Carroll. I for one am quite happy. Who knows? Maybe this will open a opportunity for one of the younger players?

A pretty plausible scenario: A Gerrard injury combined with a Suarez ban for number of yellows and a game against a top side... BR's going to have to pick his side based on players available rather than the best tactics for the game. And subs, we're going to be so limited in our options to change shape and approach unless we start moving players all over the pitch. We may well cope, but it's just making stuff harder for ourselves which we don't need.

I hope Borini can be relied upon to score goals. We needed a striker and I think we've basically got Borini. If he isn't our goalscorer then we're ****ed.

All if's and but's and a silly way to look at it. Whoever we could have signed may have got injured in his first game and be ruled out for the rest of the season! Or knowing our track record, we would probably sign an injured player!

I'm pretty sure more players means less risk of that and fewer means more.

i think you can only recall your player if there's no fee.

Probably some stipulation about timeframe and compensation locked into the contract, if its possible at all.
Unfair on the other club, so it would have to be something they would have agreed to at the time the contract was done up.

i read a rumour that we can recall Carroll in January if we like but not sure how credible it was.

I think Tony Barrett tweeted that the other day so it is very credible but doesn't changes anything in the short run.

We cannot recall him now and by January it could be too late anyway.
