    Ronald Koeman

Been watching some stuff on ESPN Classic recently and they've had some reviews of old World Cups/Euro tournaments on, so it set my mind back.

As a centre back and sweeper, Koeman's goal record was ****ing ridiculous I know he took penalties and had a superb freekick on him, but still - this goal record is absurd:

    1980-81: 24 games, 4 goals
    1981-82: 32 games, 15 goals
    1982-83: 33 games, 14 goals
    1983-84: 38 games, 10 goals
    1984-85: 37 games, 13 goals
    1985-86: 40 games, 9 goals
    1986-87: 36 games, 16 goals
    1987-88: 41 games, 21 goals
    1988-89: 37 games, 16 goals
    1989-90: 45 games, 17 goals
    1990-91: 34 games, 13 goals
    1991-92: 48 games, 17 goals
    1992-93: 39 games, 11 goals
    1993-94: 49 games, 19 goals
    1994-95: 41 games, 10 goals
    1995-96: 38 games, 13 goals
    1996-97: 35 games, 10 goals

    Groningen: 101 appearances, 37 goals
    Ajax: 113 appearance, 28 goals
    PSV: 132 appearances, 39 goals
    Barcelona: 246 appearances, 46 goals
    Feyenoord: 90 appearances, 26 goals

    Total club career:

    652 games, 227 goals
And just to say it again - he was mainly a CENTRE BACK and SWEEPER

He was terrible as a manager for Valencia. He almost relegated them yet won the Copa del Rey. Weird times these.

Fernando Hierro has a similar scoring record for Spain. I think he is in Spain's top 5 goal scorers despite being a defender

that goal scoring record of Koemans is unbelievable! Plenty of strikers out there would be more than happy with that sort of goal return

To put it into context, Ian Rush's career stats were: 828 games, 384 goals.

So Rush's stats were slightly under than 1 in 2 or 0.46 goals per game.

Koeman's are better than 1 in 3, or 0.34 goals per game.

            And he was a defender

                  Chance meeting.

Do you know 'Sabre' on YNWA? It was his stag do, and Hierro was doing an interview in the lobby on the day we were checking out. I recognised him first so got my photo taken
