I know mate & he deserves some of what he'll get, but the papers take things far too far. I loathe the bloke, but I imagine it'll go beyond acceptable. Just like it did with Rafa, who deserved none of it.Originally posted by Tee View PostWait till things start going pear shaped, which they will.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Yep, and it was certainly not his place to say those things in public IMO. It was so utterly patronising it was embarrassing. Bernstein was saying he wouldn't discuss other managers or candidates and here was Hodgson basically admitting that Harry was in the running and wanted the job, when all along Harry has been saying publicly he is happy at Spurs and concentrating on that job.Originally posted by Tee View Post
The bit in bold wound me up as well, what the hell was this deluded old fool on about? Embarassing and cringeworthy comments about him and Harry.White liquid in a bottle = Milk
Purslow = C*nt

This Woy thing. When he was our manager, I was really uncomfortable with people calling him Woy. Didn't matter how bad he was, I found it really disrespectful for the manager of our club to be belittled in that way. We should be waaay better than that. I think the filter was put on as a result.
Now he's gone, I couldn't care less obviously.
For the most prominent national newspaper to do it (on the fornt page is it?) on his first day on the job is quite dreadful.Oh I don't know.

THIS is all you need to read:
New England manager Roy Hodgson deserves more respect from Liverpool fans
01 May 2012
I want to make something very clear. I never wanted Roy Hodgson to manage Liverpool Football Club. While in charge of Liverpool I admit that I never gave him my full backing as I thought he was a 'yes man' brought in to nod while Christian Purslow and co. asset stripped, should a buyer not be found. I firmly believe that this would have continued to happen had John Henry and Tom Werner not bought the club.
Like many, I wanted Kenny Dalglish appointed when Rafa left. I thought that was the right time to give him a second chance. The club needed at the very least, a short-term solution and Kenny knew the club inside out. My thinking was if he failed then, it wouldn't be seen as failure as such because of the state the club was in and because of the ongoing disruption.
The reason he was overlooked was because he would have had so much power. There was no way he would have agreed to the sales of the club's biggest stars for example and the regime back then knew this. Some of you may recall that I even put a £50 special on Dalglish to be the next manager of the Reds because of things I was hearing behind the scenes and this was while Rafa was in charge and months before he left. I scanned the betting slip in and published it online in an editorial. People were like 'WTF?', because there was absolutely no possibility or suggestions at the time that Dalglish would ever be considered as manager for a second spell. Hodgson even f*cked my bet up
On the eve of Rafa's sacking, before the Spaniard was told and before the public were made aware, Christian Purslow sent a private email in the early hours to someone who's name I need to keep private, in which it said that Rafa would be sacked in the morning. Sadly for Purslow, he sent it to the wrong person by mistake and it ended up in my mailbox. In that email - which I have retained for my infamous book - Purslow talks of the 'brief' i.e. how they're going to present the decision to move Rafa out.
I was gutted at the treatment of Rafa. For me to even consider accepting a replacement, he'd have to be someone exceptional. Like the Kop, I wanted Kenny. He was 'family' and I'd been privy to his feelings about wanting the job. I broke down in tears as a young teenager when he left as manager the first time around. He was Liverpool through and through. He had 'unfinished business' and he would definitely take no **** from any owners. Like Rafa, he would only care about the fans and he would fight our corner when needed. He had to be appointment in my eyes. To replace him with Roy Hodgson was cruel. I knew what the regime was trying to do, I couldn't stand it. Because of this, I was never going to take to Roy so I understand why other Reds wouldn't. That I don't have a problem with.
What I do have a problem with is the constant abuse aimed at this man by Liverpool 'fans' and local hacks who think it's funny to mock the man because of his rhotacism, a misarticulation of the sound 'r' or the substitution of another sound for it. Now I know at this point you're laughing out loud thinking 'Hang on Dunk, you're the least politically correct person around!'. True. But I think there's a difference between banter and outright abuse i.e. attacks on someone because of a disability of any description. I'm sure Roy, not Woy, can deal with that but there's a lot of kids that have this problem and get bullied because of it, so maybe you could just think a little before taking the piss the next time. By all means mock his methods and anything to do with his management style but leave the personal attacks out. It's not like they're even warranted... what I mean is, he's hardly the enemy. Oh I haven't forgotten his digs at Rafa but Rafa owned him without even having to try. While Rafa responded publicly, all he needed to do was send him a copy of his CV.
Roy Hodgson did not set out to damage Liverpool Football Club in anyway. He tried his best but it wasn't good enough, simple as. But why should he be vilified and continually so? He wasn't given the financial backing that Dalglish has been given nor was he afforded the same time. His League record at Liverpool was better than Dalglish's according to various football commentators (I have no idea if that remains the case but they were still stating this on the box yesterday - yes I could go and research that but I have a sausage sarnie on my desk in front of me and that takes priority, I'm only still typing while it cools a little!).
These morons who continue to overstep the mark keep justifying their attacks with statements such as 'his press conferences were a joke, he was always touchy and saying the wrong things'. I'm sorry but while I don't want to have a pop at Kenny, I have seen much worse from him this season. He too has been snappy, rude and dismissive and he has just about everyone on side, at least Roy had a reason to be paranoid. He knew his face didn't fit and that he'd struggle to win fans over after Kenny had been snubbed and because he wasn't a 'big name' boss.
Sometimes it's hard to speak your mind because it can leave people thinking you're in favour of someone or something. Just because I'm defending Roy Hodgson doesn't make me a fan, that's why at the start of this editorial I tried to make it clear that I am not a fan of his. I didn't want him at Liverpool and I'm glad he's no longer there.
Hodgson was overjoyed when he took the Liverpool job so I feel sorry for him that it didn't work out. At this point someone will rattle on about severance pay but that doesn't interest me, it just makes you small minded if you really have to mention the money that he was entitled to under the terms of his contract, just like the money Rafa and others before him were also entitled to. However, Rafa was class and made a substantial donation to the Hillsborough families. Rafa's one of us, Roy wasn't, but I don't dislike Roy just because there's no connection.
Again, Hodgson wasn't my choice for the England manager's job. I love my international football (competitive, not friendlies) and I will support England throughout the Euros like the mug I am. Thankfully I also have Spain to keep me interested! Personally I fancied 'Arry because I feel that he would motivate the players more, they'd want to play for him etc. I just can't imagine Roy having the same bond ... especially with Glen Johnson who must be left wondering if he should start browsing the internet for some late deals this summer.
Despite the fact that Hodgson isn't a big name or the fans choice, who's to say that he can't have a stab at it? Big name foreign managers on huge salaries have failed miserably when they were expected to do well. With Roy, nobody will expect us to do well. And if you compare his trophy haul to 'Arry, is there really a big difference? Hodgson has done well at small clubs so maybe the same will apply with England who can't be considered a real threat to Europe's elite.
Later today the FA will confirm Hodgson as the next boss of England and you know what, I'm made up for him. I'm hardly buzzing with excitement but to be honest, when it comes to England, I haven't been since 1990 so I'm not arsed about the appointment. I truly hope he can prove his doubters wrong though. Having silenced the Kop on his return last month, I hope he can go on to silence a few more naysayers, especially one failed footballer who was laying into Hodgson on Twitter the other day (I don't follow him but it was brought to my attention). Hodgson may have failed at Anfield as a manager, but at least his entire footballing career wasn't a huge fail. Some people should look at themselves before criticising others.
Hodgson is a good man. He tried his best, isn't that all we ask of anyone who represents us? Criticise him by all means, have no faith in him, that is your right and I'm 100% with you in that regard, but please lay off the attacks and show the man a bit more respect. The same stance should also apply to the current manager as Roy isn't the only one who is subjected to abuse. If you're one of those 'fans' who think it's cool to hate on Roy, Rafa or Kenny, you just don't get it and there's no place for you on KOPTALK.
