Hmm. I do not want him. That said.
He has experience of international management. He is limited at coaching players to a progressive style, but England lack the technical players for this & International managers don't get the time to coach it into them anyway. In international terms, England are a Fulham or a West Brom.
However... He isn't exactly mr motivator. Has never won anything decent. But whilst England aren't that great, I'd compare them more to Liverpool than Fulham. They may be average, but the fans still expect brilliant results.
And as based on his time here, I'd say he isn't the best at dealing with expectation.
Under Redknapp I expected England to bow out in the knockout stages - heroic failure as so often in the past - having a real go attacking wise but coming up short.
Under Hodgson, I think we'll be out at the group stage, playing drab football that makes your eyes bleed.Forwards.......

The perfect manager for England currently is Rafa
His tactics and ideals would be perfect
However he'd never be appointed because A) the media ****ing hate him and B) the FA are ****ing cretinous baffoons
This appointment smacks of listening too much to the media (see his appointment at LFC) and secondly a higher level of insanity than I thought even the FA were capable ofBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

What a laugh, the guy has never won a trophy in his life (The Icelandic Tuna and Brine cup aside).
His popularity in the press is astounding, but it will be interesting to what the press reaction to him is post tournament.
Hopefully a massive failure will be put down to having little or no time to get to know the players so he can carry on for at least another one

Once again, I don't have an anti-Hodgson agenda borne of rabid Liverpool support. I just don't think he's an especially good manager.

That said, I do think the England manager should be English, and of an average selection, he's the outstandingly average candidate.

That's so true, a failure will either be put down to Capello or him not having time to get to know the players and make his mark. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
