We all know he's not a nice bloke though. He's sarky and defensive. Rigid and reactionary.

    In short, he's a ****.
    Are we winning?

At no point in my life would I ever consider paying to watch international football, its dull, so although his negativity annoys me, not anywhere near enough to get upset about it. Capello s Russia were ****ing dire the other night and they will qualify as their group is ****. Still turgid rigid **** though.
Aren't they expanding the Euros or something: I have a feeling that unless you're the Faroes or Andorra it's going to be impossible not to qualify.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think Rafa would work wonders with this team.

He'd sure then up defensively for a start, and on top of that he'd probably get tons out of players like Henderson and Sterling.

The "English manager for English team" media would never allow it though.

Its international football not club football. If its to have any relevance then IMO all players and managers should be from that country. Its pointless otherwise. We can't choose to nick messi off the argies so why should it be any different for the manager.

So it seems we have a Teflon Roy. An oxymoron if ever there was one.
              Oh I don't know.

Roy is a good fit for England, they're **** and he hasn't got a clue. I hated him when he was our manager, but he seems okay now that I don't care.

His genius, and it's undeniable, is that he has lowered expectations so much that the media would seem to be on his side.

It's the worst performance world cup results wise since the 50s and compared to every England manager ever, he's having the easiest ride.

                  The man is a genius.

It's amazing isn't it?! Every England manager prior to Hodgson has been subjected to vile abuse from the media, but Hodgson seems to be untouchable. I'm not advocating the abuse, but I can't understand how the worst England manager for over half a century seems to be getting away with being a complete duffer?

Crazy isn't it. We've managed 1 win in our last 5 games which was against Peru, since then we've managed a couple of draws against the footballing powerhouses of Ecuador and Honduras and losing against Italy and Uruguay. If this was under Capello or some other Johnny Foreigner the press would be up in arms demanding for him to be sacked.

You actually have to doft your cap to his most amazing ability of lowering expectation so much so that his results are expected and anything else would be seen as a huge success story.

It is quite astonishing to be fair.
He really is the old, nice uncle that everyone likes, but then we as a fanbase know what he's really like when faced with a job he's clearly out of his depth for.

Liam Brady reckons that, despite what we've heard over the last day or two, Greg Dyke will be dropping him like a back of dirt seeing as how he was not his man, and seeing as how Roy doesn't even have QF exit to fall back on.
Not sure what the cost would be, but isn't Roy on something like 4.5m Euros a year (gonna assume his contract isn't up until after the Euros). 2nd highest-paid manager at the World Cup.

Yet another handy group for England in the Euro qualifiers TBH, which I would expect Roy to be even able to qualify for. He'll be doing his best to talk about what a momentous, epoch-defining achievement it would be to qualify from such a group, and drag his buddies in the media long for the ride.

Horrendous......charts like that are a daily reminder in how I've gone wrong in life.

£3.5M a year, utterly crazy amount of money and for what?
I genuinely believe almost anyone could have managed to get the results he's got with that England team.

Hodgson has high hopes for Euro 2016

Roy Hodgson is confident that, despite England's two defeats at the FIFA World Cup™ bringing about an early exit, they have shown enough quality to raise hopes of a decent Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Consecutive 2-1 defeats by Italy and Uruguay have left England facing a meaningless final game against Group D surprise package Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday, after which the squad will fly home. In time, head coach Hodgson will turn his thoughts to the 2016 European Championship qualifiers, starting with an away game against Switzerland on September 8, and he says that he will take heart from what he has seen in Brazil.

"I believe England have a very strong basis for a team," he told newspaper reporters after his side's loss to Uruguay in Sao Paulo on Thursday. "It's very young. These players within the space of two years will play in the Premier league, and they will get better and stronger as an England team.

"I have never doubted (that) this team as it moves forward - not just to 2016, but on from there - will become stronger and better. We will just for the moment have to suck on this very bitter pill that our hopes and dreams have floundered here because we were unable to win the games."

                                Young players

Among the players who played against Uruguay were 19-year-old Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling and 20-year-old Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, both of whom have been blooded by Hodgson. Young players such as Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson have also gained valuable playing experience during the World Cup, while several players have sampled a major tournament for the first time.

Given his side's relative inexperience, particularly when compared to a wily Uruguay team, Hodgson felt that England's display at the Corinthians Arena augured well. "I think that bodes well for the future," he said. "It was a tough team to play against, tough physically. We had a bigger domination than we had against the Italians. For large parts of the game we kept them at bay."

He added: "Results colour everyone's judgement and I am certainly happy with the way the players have prepared for these games. I am certainly happy with the way we have approached the tournament and I am happy with effort they have put in, but we have played two experienced and strong teams and on both occasions we have come second."

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has confirmed that Hodgson will be allowed to see out his contract, which expires in 2016, and the former Liverpool manager received unequivocal backing from senior players Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart on Saturday. Asked if his enthusiasm for the job was still intact, Hodgson replied: "My enthusiasm for football is not likely to wane and my enthusiasm for working with these players is not likely to wane either."
