‘WATCH YOUR TACKLE’ AT EURO 2012

England supporters choosing to camp because of spiralling hotel costs or sightseeing in the natural attractions of Poland and Ukraine in between matches are exposing themselves to an increased risk of being bitten by a tick infected with Tick Borne Encephalitis (TBE), says Tick Alert.

A special Euro 2012 page has been set up on the website Tickalert.org to give fans information about the TBE risk in regions around the tournament’s host cities.

Ticks lie in wait and crawl unnoticed to a nice warm spot on your body, usually the groin although the armpit is another favourite feeding place. Underwear offers little protection against these blood-sucking pests.

People spending time in the countryside, especially if they are sleeping or walking a lot in grassy areas and undergrowth, need to regularly check their body for ticks and remove any immediately as the moment the tick bites there is the risk you will contract TBE.

It is no joke, I was on Exercise in Poland in 96 for 8 weeks, I was having a body wash one morning and one of the guys noticed that around my armpit and arm was yellow and black (like a massive bruise) one of the little sods had injected my armpit with some sort of fluid to deaden the pain and burrowed into my armpit (I never felt a thing) Once the doc had sliced open my armpit, he removed a big fat maggot type insect about the size of a thumbnail and it was bloated on my blood.

2 weeks of antibiotics and many dressing changes later I was declared fit.

3 weeks after returning from Poland I was in Hospital for 10 days on Antibiotics and water caused by the little *******

My late grandma got bitten by a tick when she was younger and it never got sorted. When she was older, her legs were a complete **** up, totally swollen all the time, she was at a special doctor's regularly, but there wasn't much they could do really.

It's no laughing matter, I can assure you. Also, VERY IMPORTANT, if you do get bitten by a tick or find one, there is no point is just pulling it out, the head will stay inside and you'll get ****ed. The only way to get rid of it successfully is using special tweezers with which you can twist them out. It's the only way.
