Juventus make €30m offer for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres

The Turin giants have turned their attention to the Spanish striker as Napoli refuse to sell Edinson Cavani, and the Old Lady have already tabled a first bid for the Spain forward

Juventus have turned their attention to Chelsea attacker Fernando Torres as they have set their sights on a high-profile striker ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, and have made a €30 million offer for the Spain international, Goal.com can reveal.
The Serie A champions had initially set their sights on Napoli star Edinson Cavani, but they have no intention of meeting the Partenopei's €70m valuation of the Uruguay international.

Therefore, they are exploring other options once more, and they have earmarked the 28-year-old Fernando Torres as their new main transfer target.

The Spain international has been struggling to live up to the high expectations at Chelsea ever since his €58m move to the Blues in January 2011, and could be allowed to move on if the price is right.

Juventus director Fabio Paratici first met with Fernando Torres' entourage during the winter transfer window to discuss a potential move, and the Old Lady have now stepped up their interest a notch

They are not only willing to splash the cash on the attacker, but are ready to include Italy international Sebastian Giovinco in the deal, too

Chelsea already have plenty of creativity in their squad with the likes of Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Juan Mata, but manager Roberto Di Matteo is a keen admirer of Giovinco, and would relish the chance of working with the tricky attacker.

Nevertheless, the potential transfer of Torres to Juve is by no means a done deal yet as there are still plenty of obstacles to overcome.

The Bianconeri could struggle to meet the striker's wage demands as he is currently on an annual salary of nearly €10m.

Additionally, Chelsea are unlikely to sell the forward until they have secured the services of a new striker themselves. The Champions League winners are believed to be keen on Porto striker Hulk, but an agreement is still far away.

First contact between both clubs has been made, though, and Juventus appear to be sitting in pole position to lure Fernando Torres to Turin if his current club indeed opt to sell the beleaguered striker this summer

Torres in Serie A. Just doesn't seem right to me. I think he may stay and have a comeback season with Chelsea first. You'd think it would be impossible for him to fail with the likes of Hazard and Mata feeding him through balls.

That's an odd way to be fed.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Sky Sports understand Newcastle have bid £8million (€10m) for FC Twente star Luuk de Jong.

The Premier League club have long been linked with the Holland international, who went to Euro 2012 but did not play in his nation's disappointing campaign.

Newcastle have now made their first approach and Sky sources understand Twente are considering the offer as boss Steve McClaren thinks about the options.

The pursuit of De Jong will do little to quash reports Demba Ba is set to leave St James' Park this summer and it appears to be the case of Alan Pardew lining up replacements.

It has in the past been reported Twente value De Jong at closer to £12.5m so it remains to be seen whether Newcastle are successful in their initial approach.

Pardew had in January shown interest in the 21-year-old but instead decided to bring in Papiss Cisse from Freiburg.

De Jong has also been linked with Tottenham, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmundafter scoring 39 goals in 76 games for Twente.

Think Suarez will be worth that alone next year, so anything from Carroll will be a bonus.

                        Suarez/Carroll > Podolski/Giroud next year!
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Not big news, but Wolves are buying Bjorn Bergman Sigurdsson from Lillestrom, he will do well in the Championship at least. I think Morgan might have bet on the right horse in Solbakken, will be interesting to follow them next season.
                          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has accused Chelsea of "taking the Mickey" with their bid for winger Victor Moses, thought to be £4million.

Whelan confirmed the Champions League winners made an offer, reported to be £4million, on Monday night which was immediately rejected.

The Nigeria international has only 12 months of his contract remaining and while talks have stalled on a new deal, Whelan is not prepared to allow the 21-year-old to leave on the cheap.

"Chelsea would need to get realistic before we would even listen to them," he told ESPN. "They made a bid at 6pm last night and we turned it down flat.

"Roberto Martinez has brought this player on and he needs at least another year with Roberto to become a top player.

"We have offered him a new contract but it seems the agent, more than the player, wants to move him on - at least that is the impression we are getting.

"It cannot be for the player's good. Victor Moses needs another year or two before moving to a club like Chelsea.

"He needs games and he won't be first choice at Chelsea, I wouldn't have thought

"We don't need to sell him with 12 months to go on his contract because he is under 24 so wouldn't be going on a free transfer.

"Ideally we would like him to sign a new contract, or a club like Chelsea would have to be realistic.

"At the moment, they are taking the Mickey with the bid they've made."
