All i want to know is... have we closed the gap on our rivals with our business done compared to theirs ?

We've improved our first 11, Arsenal's has clearly got worse and despite all the hype about Spurs business I think they had a better 1st 11 last season too. Key might be that Spurs have Dempsey and Defoe as attacking back up whereas ours looks like Joe Cole, Downing and Assaidi (who might be amazing for all we know but if he's **** we are screwed)

Spurs will ship some goals with the AVB high line and Kaboul injured.

Arsenal get an injury to Giroud or Podolski and they are short up front in the same way we are.

This season could all be about how lucky teams are with injuries as no one seems to have a great deal of cover.

Thats a whole lot of "undisclosed".

How are we supposed to argue about net spends without knowing the fees, goddammit.

Oh yeah, we'll all make them up and argue anyway

blimey there has really been some turnover this summer then, surprised at the number of players that have been let go or sold on.

Maybe clubs are really starting to seriously consider FFP and getting the over paid fringe players off their books.

Sunderland have expressed an interest in signing former Newcastle striker Michael Owen, Press Association Sport understands.

The Black Cats have made initial contact with the 32-year-old free agent as manager Martin O'Neill attempted to boost his striking options with the summer transfer window drawing to a close.

However, it is understood that conversation is yet to be followed up and that long-time admirers Stoke remain more likely to make the decisive move.

Owen, who was released by Manchester United at the end of last season, has indicated he wants to stay in the Barclays Premier League despite receiving offers from Europe, and he has been linked with a series of clubs, including Everton, Liverpool and West Ham as well as the Potters and Sunderland.

He spent four years in the north-east after Newcastle made him their record signing when they pulled off what looked like a sensational coup by bringing him back to England from Real Madrid in August 2005.

However, injuries, and in particular the knee ligament damage he suffered on England duty at the 2006 World Cup finals, severely limited his contribution.

Amid a chaotic period in the club's history, he turned down the offer of a contract extension at St James' Park and ultimately was unable to prevent the club slipping out of the top flight at the end of the 2008-09 season, after which he was part of a player exodus.

O'Neill worked hard all summer to strengthen his attacking options, investing heavily in the services of strikers Steven Fletcher, who scored both goals in yesterday's 2-2 draw at Swansea, and Louis Saha as well as winger Adam Johnson.

However, Fraizer Campbell and youngsters Ji Dong-won, Connor Wickham and Ryan Noble represent the back-up and the temptation to add experience is perhaps understandable.

Raul Meireles close to leaving Chelsea for Fenerbahce

Turkish side Fenerbahce say they are in negotiations to sign Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles.

Fenerbahce would be able to buy the 29-year-old after the British transfer deadline because the Turkish window is open until midnight on Wednesday.

Reports suggest an £8m bid has been submitted for the Portuguese international.

A Fenerbahce spokesman told BBC Sport: "The club are in talks and are hopeful that a deal can be completed."

Meireles moved to Chelsea from Liverpool for a reported £12m on transfer deadline day a year ago.

Zenit St Petersburg have signed highly-rated Brazilian forward Hulk from FC Porto on a five-year contract.

Hulk is believed to be a long-time target of Chelsea but the Russian giants have ended speculation linking him with a Stamford Bridge move after confirming their swoop for the forward on their official website on Monday evening.

The club did not disclose the transfer fee but reports claim they have parted with €50million to secure the frontman.

The 26-year-old made a huge impact at Porto after joining from Tokyo Verdy in 2008.

But the Brazil international had long been linked with a new challenge, with his agent admitting earlier in the summer that the "time was right" for the player to move on.

Last week, Porto president Pinto da Costa revealed he had turned down an offer worth €50m from Zenit for the powerful forward, but a deal has now been reached by the two clubs.

Hulk scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and played a crucial role in Porto's Europa League title-winning campaign in 2010-11.sky

Radamel Falcao's father says the Atletico Madrid striker 'has always wanted' to play in the Premier League and is a big fan of Chelsea.

The Colombia international is one of the most prolific forwards in world football and produced a devastating display in Atletico's Super Cup mauling of Chelsea on Friday night.

Falcao plundered a first-half hat-trick in the 4-1 victory in Monacoto demonstrate what Chelsea could be buying in the January transfer window.

The former Porto hit-man's father, Radamel Garcia, has claimed that Chelsea are one of three clubs interested in his son and that a New Year move is a possibility.

"Yes, it's very likely," Radamel Sr was quoted by the Colombian media, when asked if his son could move to the Premier League in January.

"There are three teams interested - Manchester City, Chelsea and a Russian team.

"Falcao has always wanted to play in the Premier League. Ever since he was a boy he has loved Chelsea and has always thought it would be an honour to play for a big Premier League team."

There have been reports in Colombia that Chelsea have already reached a pre-agreement to sign Falcao, but his father would not be drawn on the speculation.

He added: "I don't want to talk about pre-agreements.

"I spoke to Falcao yesterday. The release clause in his contract is about €55million (£43.5m) but Falcao doesn't want to talk figures."SKY
