He's spent a couple of years playing for Carlisle United. A few years in Cumbria will do that to anybody

Former Germany international Thomas Hitzlsperger is training with Everton with a view to getting a getting a contract at Goodison Park.

Hitzlsperger has been without a club since leaving Wolfsburg at the end of last season but has Premier League experience following spells with West Ham and Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old has made a positive first impression at Everton and Blues assistant boss Steve Round told the club's official website: "I have been very pleased with him. Thomas is a long way off playing but we have given him the opportunity to come in and it is up to him now. We will assess him over the next couple of weeks."

Round went on: "He seems a really good lad and I don't think I have seen him without a smile on his face.

"What will determine whether he gets a contract is his fitness. He has had a bad injury and we would want to see that he could sustain training.

"If he could do that, he would add quality and strength to our squad. He has got a history of playing at the highest level."
That rug really tied the room together.

Always thought he was a pretty good player. Hammer left foot obviously. Surprised he's a free agent.

Is it ok to call him Joke Hole now that Craig H isn't here to defend his honour by saying what a decent chap he is?

He also seemed to be a player who needed games to find his level. Could work in some teams but he is far too keen to blast at goal for a lot of setups. He could be a very useful free transfer for someone though.

I remember when he and Huddlestone were the great hopes for English football. Odd pair - lots of talents but never really kicked on from promise to class and now their weaknesses seem more prominent than their strengths.

My cousin was at Forest at the same time as Jenas - in a younger age group - and Jenas was the absolute star of the club's youth ranks, head and shoulders better than their next best talent and they were convinced, utterly convinced, that he would go on to captain England and prove himself a genuine world beater.

                      LOL

They weren't the only ones. He was as hyped as Joe Cole or Wayne Rooney from my memory.

Michael Dawson & Andy Reid were other Forest youth products who failed to live up to their supposed promise. I suspect there will be a thread on how we missed out on all of them on here

Dawson and Reid! My Forest supporting mate was hailing them as potential world beaters - Dawson is decent I suppose and Andy Reid I have no idea where he is these days, pie shop I'd imagine.

Robert Green has been told he can leave Queens Park Rangers for NOTHING – just three months after signing for the club.

Former England *goalkeeper Green joined QPR from the club’s *opponents tomorrow night, West Ham, after he rejected a new contract at Upton Park.

But his decision swiftly backfired as Rangers signed *Brazil international Julio Cesar – and Green was immediately dropped to the bench.

Now, Green has been told by manager Mark Hughes that he is already surplus to *requirements and he will be allowed to leave the Hoops on a free transfer, if he can find a new club.

The shot-stopper is *currently being paid around £50,000 a week by QPR, making him one of the highest-paid reserve *goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Green’s career began its descent after he failed to stop a long-range shot from Clint Dempsey in England’s 2010 World Cup match against USA, resulting in a 1-1 draw – and seeing him dropped as national No.1.

Meanwhile, QPR defender Anton Ferdinand has broken his silence after John Terry was found guilty of using racist language towards him
