It's not even an argument IMO. It's Messi by a street, then we can debate the rest.

I'm 100% adamant and I know within myself that I'm right. It's not to do with achievement or stats for me, it's from what I see with my own eyes and the ability shown on the pitch. Although not the most succesful or naturally gifted, R9 was the ultimate attacking footballer. His balance, technique, and power at pace has not been matched. He was like a graceful bull charging his way through defences.
but yeah, if I was going to go with the general concensus, then it would have to be Messi.

If people can let go of the nostalgia then it's clear as day. He's not only a goalscorer either. Plus being able to stay so motivated and hungry after winning everything at club level, several times, is quite a feat.
When Maradona came to Napoli they had finished 3rd the previous year and the year they won it first he scored 10 goals, the year after he was top scorer in the league. But even if he was kicked he had more time to recover as they only had 16 teams in the league in '86-87.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

He scored those goals in an ultra defensive league where defenders ruled the roost and he got zero protection from the Refs.Originally posted by The_weatherman View Post

I don't think there's much between them but Maradona just shades it for me.

Yeah, but the very best tend to buy the very best. Same in any sport.Originally posted by Deano View PostHe's clearly a class player, but, its the Spanish league, and he's in the best side, as much as I hate it, fake Ronaldo produced in England and Spain.
The fact he plays in (arguably) the best teams there ever was is a compliment.
