To be fair the date specified in his contract has passed, the fact that the Covid situation has screwed up the football calendar means nothing in legal terms. There was no league-wide or football-wide precedent to extend the contracts or anything like that which might have created ambiguity to the situation.

I don't think that La Liga should be getting involved as it's nothing to do with them though.

I have already seen a couple of city fans say that Barcelona don't have the class of City, comparing the situation with Messi to that of Silva leaving them. I've also seen a couple of people suggesting that Messi is being held prisoner

      Entitled prick!

      He signed the contract.

He will have to manage on his current wages.

Presumably Messi asked for the clause so the fact he apparently as a specified date rather than in relation to the league end or CL final could be his weak spot. If he said within 14 days of cl final for instance would be slam dunk case for him. By a specified date assuming the season would be over isn't great.

Cursory reasoning in England and Wales law would not necessarily rule against him for that alone as it is based on what could be reasonably known at the time contract was drafted but not sure how Spanish law would look at it or CAS of course if it gets that far

He will still go, It’s all games, saying the only reason he is staying is because he can’t afford the 700m release clause. They would be crazy not to sell him for 60-80m. They need to start rebuilding without him. Sooner the better for them.
