he's not really taking a pay cut but getting a 2/3 year salary paid over 5 to get Barca under the salary cap.

His wages have destroyed the team and his chances of success over the years, it would have made more sense for him to have reduced wages and an agreed 'ambassador' salary for 20 years after he finished playing

      Good point actually

Didn't take long for this to come to light

Reports say that part of that contract will be as an ambassador for the club when he moves to play in Major League Soccer - rumoured to be two years into his contract.

wonder will Barca try to have a MSL franchise - possibly with Messi having a big stake in it as well - a-la Beckham.

Could see Ronaldo then doing the same and perhaps that is the new post-playing career of superstars.

Can Ronaldo go there - isn’t he accused of rape?

If he's being paid the same as an ambassador as he is as player then that's dodgy as ****, surely that can't be the case?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

its blatantly bending the rules but then its quite common for high paid players to go out on loan and their original club foot the bill for most the wages so how they can prove it?

He's goes out on loan to play in MLS and still does PR bits for Barca, all above board.

Usually clubs don't offer long term contracts to 34 year old though, and while it's common to sign young players to long contracts with the intention of loaning them out you usually just let older players leave on a free or some minimal fee after years of service and they want to prolong their career by playing in the MLS. Perhaps Barca are cunningly using their stupidity over wages and transfers over recent years to make it look like incompetence rather than something dodgy

Well I for one am shocked that there may be some financial skullduggery at play here - two upstanding clubs like this

Hilarious, should be definitely taking advantage of this especially after the Suarez and Coutinho sagas.

I don't think the money is there but I wonder what they'd do if someone bid 45 mil for De Jong.
