But then I have to pay something like £28 even if I ditch the Sky Sports channels.
Is that really the best option?
I was hoping to get rid of giving Murdoch anything.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I just want to watch Liverpool games now, I don't want to watch Crystal Palace v West Brom. Why can't LFC just do live matches themselves? I just don't care about football, its rubbish.

The block nature of football matches just seems so antiquated with the way multimedia is nowadays. I want to be able to choose specifics - I'm not interested in even the "Super Duper Massive Sunday" games that Sky tell me are the best games that have ever been. I only want to watch the club I support - I don't go to watch games at other grounds, because I don't support any other clubs, so I don't see why I have to pay for for other clubs I have no interest in.

Good point.
There's a Guardian article by Mark Lawson today about how social media is affecting comedy and drama scheduling. You're right, technological development is driving changes in usage at incredible speed and sport is lagging behind.
The reason I suppose is that limiting access is the only way to recoup the massive spends on rights which in turn is greedily accumulated by the rights' holders.

I think broadcasting companies will move to the web fully at some point, after fibre is rolled out to most homes. The lock in nature of broadcasting as it is is what's slowing down the change, as they'll be losing control and money over the new model.
It's been happening all the time for the past 10 years or so with music, cinema. Laws around copyright have made everything very complex to get around as well. True competition is still quite a long way off.
