They had a couple of notable costly misses, but I think more crucial was that each major tactical change the Dutch made failed. Sneijder is brilliant at playing people in from central positions; they didn't lack the personnel they lacked the ability to send them out in a cohesive unit better than the sum of its parts. Every time van Marwijk tried to 'fix' one part of the team the change fooked up another.

I was shocked at how bad the Dutch were..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I don't think BVM needed to go with that mental attacking line up. They were ridiculously wide open and predictably so with VDV as one of only two CMs and Sneijder and Robben as the wide men. Insanity. Portugal walked through the middle of the pitch and obviously neither Robben or Sneijder offered their full backs any sort of protection. They should've gone with their normal set up and gone for it with half an hour or so to go.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
