      Kevin Phillips is one of the best goalscorers over the last ten yearss, he would have thrived if he would have got a big move.

        So you would probably wank over Darren Bent then.

        But IMO there are reasons that they never did it for top clubs. The same reasons CFD wont succeed at a top club.

        I may be wrong of course. Thats just my opinion.

            I do see your point, I just think Kevin Phillips was a poor example to use.

              It probably was. I just thought he was a decent example as he never hit it off with a top club. We will never now, but IMO we wasn't the player who would succeed at the very top.

              It is SO much different to play for top teams who play against teams who parks the bus. IMO Phillips was brilliant in open games, but I dont think he would be suited to the other ones.

              IMO Dempsey would be the same.

                To be fair, he never got the chance with a big club really.

                It's actually not that easy to find examples of players who were great for the lesser teams in the league but failed to carry it when they move up a step in class. Jeffers and Keane maybe?

                IMO there are more examples of players who have succesfully made the jump from lesser teams than those that haven't. Crouch, Sheringham, Rooney, Bellamy to name the first few that came to mind.

                I'm not saying Dempsey's as good as Rooney or anything like that, I'm just saying to dismiss him because he's only performed for Fulham is a little harsh.

                  TBH it's not dismissal because of playing for a small club. It's dismissal because I dont think Dempsey would get those goals for a top club.

                  We will never know unless he gets a move to a top club. I just hope it won't be for us.

                  But he is not young, and that no big clubs are chasing him tells me a lot. I know that it's not enough for a conclusion - but it does indicate something IMO.

                    Maybe because he doesn't fit in the system of a lot of top clubs and even if he would, they might not be looking at that position at the moment.

                      I suspect it's basically because he wouldn't improve the top teams. But, sadly, that doesn't mean he wouldn't improve us.

                            IMO Dempsey would be a good signing. Great attitude,very physcial and never seems to get dominated by CB's. Good technique and was fantastic last season. Fantastic option for the squad IMO.
