Last time I checked we finished Mid Table. I see your point, but we are never going to get the stars. So if he is the best we can get at the moment. We have to go for it.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostScoring for a mid level team though is very different to scoring for us.
Wouldn't say he was an out and out striker though.*Except Michael, who died.

These days not a chance matt, Dempsey is far superior in every aspect.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostSorry mate but Kuyt is a much better player than Dempsey.
Personally if we signed him for a decent fee, nothing silly!! I'll be happy and consider it a very good addition to the squad & a smart commercial move.

Chap at work is a Fulham fan and reckons its done for £6m. He's gutted as doesn't think £6m is enough compensation for losing him, whilst admitting that paying more than that for him would be over the top
Reckon at £6m that's a decent deal personallyI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

I'm with Matt; Kuyt was - and still is - an excellent player. I think he could have been a great option for us this year, especially with the high-pressing game we expect to see and his knack for important goals.
Whilst he wasn't a shining light last season, he wasn't the only one who struggled infront of goal in an impotent team. Dempsey has been a slow-burner who peaked last year (I need El Matador to confirm, once I get the time of his birth, obv) but I'd prefer an ageing Kuyt to Dempsey right now.

If it's 6 million then IMO we have done very well. Forgetting that it would be a commercially smart move in the states, he is actually a good player. I like his aggression and he has a bit of balls, it's something we sorely lack with Downing/Hendo/Aquilani/Cole in the side. Every team needs a few fiery characters.Originally posted by Fierce View Post

Many aren't impressed and that's fair enough but i think if we sign him there'll be a few people pleasantly surprised.

2011-12:23 goals
2010-11:14 goals
Kuyt:
2011-12:4 goals
2010-11:14 goals
Dempsey is 2 years younger, technically better than Kuyt & is much more mobile, huge threat in the air too. Kuyt has been a fabulous servant for Liverpool but IMO it was very obvious that his legs were well and truly gone. It was the right move for me to let me leave.

kuyt has been great, but he was a spent force.
dempsey isnt a world beater, but will improve the squad and add more goals and assists from a wide right area. he might not be young enough to be a great bit of building for the future, but im sure he will do a good job for 2-3 years until other younger talent comes through.
definitely an improvement.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I'm at work, so can't really do this reply any justice, nor research the stats - but anyhoo, fair post Dan - I have to take your word on the stats, but it would be interested to see it broken down into playing time etc.Originally posted by danperkins View PostDempsey:

I think looking at goalscoring stats for any member of our team last season is going to show a glitch, but from 14 to 4 is not the greatest. However, I still think Kuyt could have offered us something this season. If he left for football reasons, fair play to him - if we decided to cash in on one million pounds, more fool us.
I still think Dempsey has peaked and we'll be throwing six million away. Just in my opinion of course, and if he joins, I can't say I like him, but will support him and hope to be proven wrong.
