How many players have had one wonder season and turned back to **** afterwards? There are tons of them. Clint Dempsey is certainly going to end up as one of them. Fulham fans used to say he was **** a few years ago, and now he's managed to peak into a productive player for a **** team, how does that suddenly make him good enough for us?

He's 29. He has no upside, he's never been a prolific scorer bar last season and his best attribute is his work rate.

Terrible, terrible signing and he's going to be chewed up to bits and spat out by everyone within a few months. You can see it coming from a mile away.

I think your tone is a bit harsh but generally I agree. He's totally mediocre and IMO he'd quickly become 'deadwood' to us and we'll be trying to ship him out in no time - just like Downing.

Difference is we won't be paying 20m for Dempsey. I think if we had paid £6m for Downing there wouldnt be such a hoo-ha surrounding him.

20m makes him a marquee signing , while 6m is to strengthen the squad, give a different option etc...

You're making judgements before you've seen what BR is goin to bring to the club and it could all still be paper talk

As much as I want Andy to stay, if we are looking for money then £15million + Clint would do. As long as Clint is on sub-60k a week.

I think Clint is supposed to be replacement not for Andy but for Maxi.

I have serious doubts that Dempsey will be able to repeat the same or similar numbers or same style of play at much bigger club than Fulham.

I have serious doubts that Dempsey will be able to repeat the same or similar numbers or same style of play at much bigger club than Fulham.

He probably won't score as many as he did at Fulham. But he'll make the same impact as Carroll has done for us so far at a fraction of the cost/salary. Same goes for Maxi at a fraction of Maxi's salary.

So with that squad position covered we have £15million spare to spend on other strikers/areas. Still a loss of £20 million but we've all come to expect that now whatever happens.

There's always someone prepared to moan no matter what happens. We could win the league & someone would say we should have won the FA cup as well. That's people for you.

For 6 million quidish i would snap that up, and he is hardly a one season wonder season beforehand he got 12 Goals 3 Assists, sure we bought Carroll off the back of a good 6 months, Downing off the back of a decent season a Villa & were willing to get Sigursson off the back of 6 months.

Yes he plays for Fulham & yes he is 29 but IMO for the right price and most likely a much cheaper wage than all of the above, Dempsey would be a super squad player. I just think his fiery personality and steel is exactly the type of player we need to shake things up. Definitely an improved player at club level last few season & has scored 29 goals at international level too. Not many peoples favorite and definitely not a wow signing, but i think it would be a shrewd addition.

I think our stats are also down to the lack of a game plan last season but regardless that is ****ing woeful

i think you're spot on there, we looked all over the place last season. Still can't believe our lack of production though it is horrendous reading.

TBF those are the kind of stats that were used to justify the signings of Downing, Adam and Henderson, going purely on stats Yakubu is the answer to our goal scoring problems. I've seen Dempsey play numerous times on Sky and I have never once thought he was anything more than an average journeyman who had found his level at Fulham.
Looks like we'll pissing more money up the wall this summer if we sign Dempsey. Great.
