I don't think it is. Dirk was a squad player last year. Why waste 6-7m on replacing a squad player when we have promising youngsters. Use the cash to buy a starting 11 player.

Actually two great seasons.Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostNot really, it isn't.
Dempsey will not be a better Liverpool player for us than Dirk. He may have had a much better season, but he had that season in a different team. He's a mediocre player who had a great season. He's still a mediocre player and will be exposed as one here.
Edit: And either way, NEITHER of them are good enough moving forward.

How does that make sense? A player coming in on the back of a good season clearly wont be better than a player leaving on the back of a poor one.Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostNot really, it isn't.

I also don't think the idea of a first team consisting of 11 players and a load of other players who are squad players holds water either. Different players suit different games/formations/occasions and are selected accordingly.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Just thought I'd post his stats again. Thats almost on average 1 goal in every 3 matches in the league for the last 5 years. Its worth remembering he didn't become pro till he was 21 also so he probably has plenty game time left in him.

Here's another theory I have.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostHow does that make sense? A player coming in on the back of a good season clearly wont be better than a player leaving on the back of a poor one.

When a team signs a **** player, these arguments pop up.
1. "He has a great work rate"
2. "Would be useful as a squad player"
3. "Gives us options and possibilities for different games"
When a team signs a great player, these things are never really mentioned, because he's a great player.
Great players fit any occassion and any game, that's what makes them ****ing great.
So let's sign more of those, and less of the not so great.

This argument holds no weight. You can see by Dempseys stats in the last 5 years hes had three good seasons and two great seasons. Thats called consistently improving every season unlike Downing.Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostHow many players have had one wonder season and turned back to **** afterwards? There are tons of them. Clint Dempsey is certainly going to end up as one of them. Fulham fans used to say he was **** a few years ago, and now he's managed to peak into a productive player for a **** team, how does that suddenly make him good enough for us?

Well, the pattern will break if/when he signs for us, so stay tuned.Originally posted by acdmackay View PostThis argument holds no weight.
