He'd certainly make weight on the deal.

We should tell them to **** off. Can't believe we're being serious in pursuing this avenue when we've haggled over paying Sigurdsson more money. If we sign Dempsey for anything over than £5m it will be another cock up added to Ian Ayre's list.
      Are we winning?

The likes of Dempsey are simply not good enough. This kind of signing is symptomatic of a mid table team affliction.
        Spot on Fredo.

          Dempsey and Makeweight?

Doesn't have the same ring to it.

Well said. It's been worrying since Rodgers signed. Hope I'm wrong but it all feels wrong to me.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

Spot on. Makes you appreicate what Benitez did and the players we had under him.

                Torres
                Xabi
                Mash

Thing is, we are where we are, we can't attract nor afford the 'great' players out there, because all clubs know about and want the great players, and we are way down the queue in that list.

Hanging on to what we have will be difficult enough.

We can attract the best, but we need to pay them more money and at the same time be sure that what we're bringing in are good enough. Taking punts on average players is what has brought us down.

Have to agree with Nige here.

If we were willing to pay the best we could attract the best. Of course some would have more about them and go for CL football but a good few of them would come for the 'project' and the money, just look at the players City attracted before CL football.

However it would appear we are not willing to go down that route so we have to hope that the manager can get more out of the players we have got (they are capable of a lot more than they showed last season) and the non-fm players that he brings in, the ones he thinks will fit his system. Non 'best' players can be turned into a team, just look at Manure. Most on here have ridiculed their signings over the last few years and look where they've finished over those last few years compared to us...

Can't really argue with that Fredo.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

We are signing a midfielder who is capable of scoring over 20 goals a season, and for less than £10m. I don't see a problem!

£10m is peanuts these days. Championship teams are signing players for around £5m these days...

A player that has scored over 20 goals in just *one* season.

At 29 years of age. (Meaning he hasn't done it in any of his previous seasons).

But when you think that for half of last season we just needed another 5% from somewhere to be having a good season, and for the second half of the season we needed a manager who could instill a system and organisation, the difference between us and the three or four above seemed bridgeable without making squad changes.
