i would have to play dempsey as the front man. he will bury his chances. borini is still unproven. we cannot fanny around, then play half the season playing catch up again

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
Read that the dempsey deal could be back on (the echo). How do people feel about this now? Where would he fit in?
I think its a decent move for the combined fees of adam/spearing sell. he is a versatile player but would probably play on the right/left of the striker. Our most pressing weakness is a lack of goals and dempsey got plenty last year.
no guarentees he will match that this year of course but i think he could chip in with around 10-15, if we get a front three that chips in with that amount each, then we won't be in too bad a position assuming that the midfielders and perhaps glen johnson chip in with a few of their own.
bottom line is we aren't going to be able to afford anybody else ie. sturridge or walcott or huntelarr or whoever else unless we sell carroll. so irrespective of the carroll deal i think dempsey is the best and most realistic target at this stage given the circumstances going into the final few days of the window.

Has dempsey played as the leading man at fulham though? i always thought he was best as an attacking mid/wing-forward.
his signing could also cover us a bit in midfield because he could play in the advanced role allowing us to push gerrard back should we become desperate through injury.

We really need to be scoring 70 goals per season to almost guarantee a CL place. I still think we need a striker, but Dempsey would contribute significantly I'm sure.

yea fair point, i think we may have to rely on Suarez improving his finishing though as not sure the funds are there for a 20+ sort of leading striker.

i think it'd be a question of doing the best with what you've got. dempsey like to play from outside the box, but plenty of other strikers played like this. almost like a false 9. start out wide, then ghost in and lose the defender.

I think that with the players we currently have Dempsey could potentially be our most prolific goalscorer.
hes no slouch at putting in some graft himself, and with suarez, sahin, gerrard, the two wingers, etc, all working hard, then all we need is someone who stands big, doesnt bottle it, and knows how to bang them in.
