Went round to a mates earlier. He was reading the Ukraine game thread on some Manure site but went to answer the phone so I scrolled through whilst he was away.

To precis:

Gerrard is average but his penalties (if one were needed) are ****e and his cross for the goal was rubbish.

Carroll was very ****e and apart from the goal against Sweden he is completely useless.

Johnson is diabolically ****e and has no positional sense so has to be helped out by Milner who is also ****e. (or vice versa according to some).

Carrick is the best midfielder in the prem and England's best chance would have come via pairing him with Scholes. (In fairness some were prepared to permit SG to play right mid along side their Barca-esque axis).

We need more players with the sort of touch and quality that Welbeck possesses.

Ashley Young had a good game.

Overall Rooney was a bit unlucky and it was completely unacceptable that SG had described the goal as a tap in during his TV interview afterwards.
