You cant do that effextively in. an orthodox 442.

The fa know were miles behind and gareth southgatw in particular is at the forefront of the new academy changez.

One of Rooney or Welbeck are both capable enough to drop deeper and get close to Pirlo when he was picking up the ball from the back 4

You can imagine the team talk 'Don't worry about Pirlo his legs have gone and he will be on his ass after 60mins'

englnad have a solid back 5, I dont think woy got the rest of the team functioning at any point, expecting gerrard and parker both in their 30's with injury problems to play so many games in a short space is daft

i dont think england put 3 passes together in the last 75 minutes of that game

But the media call him England's talisman and Roy loves the media.

So it was a far from perfect way to play tournament football.

          Oh I don't know.

Is it correct the most successful pass stat was Hart to Carroll..?

That was majestic. You just manoeuvred him to disagree with himself within 3 posts.

And when Italy actually got in behind England, it was practically in the 18 yard box.
                Oh I don't know.

To be fair, it was not hard.

But they didnt after twenty mins. At the start rooney and wellbeck stood in a line either side of pirlo nd this stopped him getting the ball. England also looked ok during the first 20 but after than neither rooney nor wellbeck stuck to that job.

Its impossible to ask a striker to do a disciplined and defensive job for 90 mins. Certainly not an english one.

I get the impression Carra doesn't rate Roy anymore

He defends with the low block and they try and counter quickly. technically we dont have the.players to compete with spain and germany so you play to your strengths. Defend deep and play counter attack because counter attacking really only requires you to have two or three technically good footballers.

Simply one to pick the right pass to start the counter another to run with the ball and pick the right pass into the final third. england only have two decent attacking players in gerrard and rooney.

He should have gone 4411 and player parker wih hendo and gerrard off rooney. Gerrard could then have sat on pirlo and stopped him making england look like a bunch of idiots.
Can't say I agree; Rooney and Gerrard would occupy the same space under Roy's 6-2-1-1, it worked under Capello to an extent because we had wide players going beyond - now our wide players are makeshift fullbacks.

He doesn't trust his back four, so he doubles up the flanks meaning any potential counter-attack is reliant on three central runners. If thrifty caught in the middle of a congested midfield, our other players are so deep and refused permission to join them, that we concede possession and it's backs to the Walls. Again.

It's not even a compact, resolute or hard to break down - it's cross your fingers and hope for the dra, until he can throw on his big centre forward in the second half to lump it long and hope it sticks.

Roy is devoid of a clue even ignoring my obvious bias.

****ing hell either the nation is full of morons or the BBC just attracts them in droves.

Nick on text: "We may have been outclassed, but we gave it a go and I can safely say that was the first tournament in my 20 years I have been proud of how England played and went about their games, and the players should be proud too.

Connor in Rothwell texts: It's a strange feeling, more proud than disappointed. But I think with players like Wilshere, Cleverley, Smalling, Jones, Welbeck, Sturridge, Ox, mixed with Hart, Rooney, Young, we've got a few reasons to be hopeful sooner rather than later..."

Jack in Salford texts: "Well done England. Topped the group, showed a bit of passion for the first time since '96 and we can build on something positive. We weren't at the races tonight but it's not like we were ever going to win the competition.

Tom from Edinburgh texts: "Nothing's changed Chris Waddle? I suggest we showed more passion, fight and desire than any Capello team! Yeah, we weren't good enough but boy we gave the England fans something to believe in, would take that any day."

                              The one sane voice

Jonny texts: "I feel heartbroken, not because we are out, but because we're so painfully far away from any of the top teams. How much longer do we have to wait for a national team that can compete at that top table?"

I dont think youve understood this. They cant play.high pressing pressure football because theyre not set up to. Roy set them out to play deep and whenever they.moved up they ****ed up.

So everytime they went against his tactics they got punished. We know roy likes a dep defence because we saw.it an anfield for six months.
