Wenger has a knack of letting players go at the right time for the maximum return. There's only really one, possibly two, players who i can think that Wenger would preferred to have kept. That being Fabregas.

He's on a reported £210k p/week. At first glance signing RVP seems a good signing, but i reckon it might turn out to be a massive flop of a signing.

They have paid top doller for a player who's 30 next year. Wenger aint daft, he will improve his team with the money and wages he's saving.

Their team has no figurehead now. When they are in a tough match and losing who will step up to the plate like Fabregas and RVP used to? They will go missing. The only hope is Wilshere but god only knows what is happening with his injury/recovery.

Am I the only one who is completely nonplussed by this move?
          Oh I don't know.

United paying £210k per week for van Persie?! No way, surely they can't / won't pay him that much.

Maybe I'm deluding myself but I don't think it's a good buy. They have glaring issues elsewhere in the team, had bought Kagawa to play the no.10 role in a 4231 and RVP undermines all of that. 29, injury prone, £25m and huge wages.

Many United fans feel the same - I've never known a superstar signing to go down so badly with a set of supporters.

I know a guy who is a rabid fan, but he hates the idea of signing RVP. I think he will get goals for them. Just not as many as they might hope.

Our hatred of the Mancs is definitely cloding the issue

We are of no threat to the Mancs this year, they have weakened one of our main opposition for 4th its that simple really.

Now if Arsenal went and spent that money on LLorente i would be worried

They seem to have the market cornered in signing cunts ... he'll fit right in

I predict he'll be a massive flop, no bitterness or anything but I think the expectation and pressure will be too much and he'll bottle it.

He has had expectation and pressure while being the Arsenal captain. I don't think that's what will make him fail.

Knowing the scums luck he will probably get off to a fantastic start via a simple tap in after the keeper fumbles a straightforward cross or something.

I think he will suffer from the Torres effect. That Arsenal team last season was built around him. The whole style of play was aimed at getting him chances. When he goes to United that won't be the case and I think his game might suffer for it. We'll see.
