When he signed on loan, there were loads of people here lamenting the fact that it was loan, not a permanent signing, and that we'll probably get shafted in the summer when we want to keep him beyond this season.Originally posted by Tee View PostWould not surprise me if he returned to Madrid in January (if possible). Wasted opportunity on both sides.
Just goes to show that it really looks like the loan option was the right option in this case. It's not working for whatever reason (maybe we'll never know why). So rather than spending a substantial fee on him, we can let him go back without losing out massively.
It's what loans are all about. It was worth a risk-free punt. Credit to the management team for that one at least.Oh I don't know.

Still think he's more intelligent than most of the players in ours squad. Let's not forget, he scored 3 goals in is first two games.
This is our best side and since we don't change personnel for fulham (home) and stoke (away), why not just play this every game when fit and available:
Reina
Johnson skrtel Agger Enrique
Allen. Lucas. Sahin
Gerrard Suarez. Sterling
All much more competent footballers than the fringe players. If I was the opposition, I would fear that side much more than one that included suso and shelvey for example. You can prepare tactics and game plan all you like but if you have a weak link, it all goes out of the window. The team above is strong, mentally.

You must agree that the midfield isn't functioning as it should right now? There are too many gaps. So why would a man of Sahin's ability not be playing? Is he injured, has he lost some of what made him special?Originally posted by Mattshark View PostTbf, how many games has Sahin played? He is a player in new league, it is hardly like he has had time to settle.
Is he simply a luxury player? If he is, when would he conceivably play?
We don't know the answers to these questions, but to me at least, if he's not playing at the moment, then it's unlikely he'll force his way into the team unless he is actually injured.Oh I don't know.

Think Rodgers is dropping a bollock not playing him, surely he can't do any worse than Shelvey and Allen recently?

Anyone that has been fortunate to watch Sahin at his best for Dortmund will know he is a deep lying playmaker. On the ST website I've gone on record as saying a lot of Dortmunds goals had Sahin's signiture just because he'd be the one to start off the attacks. His range of passing is phenomenal. Either Rodgers has never watched Sahin play or he's experimenting by playing him in a new positon. Either way he's dropped a bollock by not maximising Sahin's talent.
I'd like to see this team against QPR.

That's what we're crying out for to be honest. It'd solve a number of problems without hindering the possession-based football we're looking to achieve.Originally posted by Imy View PostHow about if Rodgers played him in his preferred deeper midfield role position?

I can't understand anyone thinking Sahin isn't good, clearly these are people who think that the Premier League is the best league in the world and that football in all other countries is ****.
Don't confuse "being ****" with "not currently playing well" - keep in mind, he's not played at all much since he left Dortmund so isn't going to be as sharp as we'd like him to be. He could definitely do a job for us and, if kept long term, would be a valuable asset.

It is doubtful if he was going to be a good fit for PL (his pace and defensive skills appear not be well suited) but he really wasn't given a real opportunity to stake his claim for the regular place in our starting lineup.Originally posted by Tee View PostWould not surprise me if he returned to Madrid in January (if possible). He was used very sporadically and in those rare occasions when he was allowed to play he was subbed very early in the second half (involved in 12 games and subbed in 5 of those by 66th minute).
I am not saying that things would/will work out but imo he needed to be given more playing opportunities in his natural position to have a realistic chance or any chance for that matter.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club
