totally overrated, he doesn't even start regularly for his mls team. he looks like a kid playing with men.

this is a move by the glazers to get more US support for the scum, nothing more. he'll be like that japanese fella that 'played' for arsenal, signed to sell shirts and awareness of the club in a different market

the US media had a hype campaign for Adu a couple years ago saying he was the next big thing in the whole sport, not just in america. he's dropped down quite a bit due to his ****e performances in mls and lack of success with the national team

Junichi Inamoto was actually thought to be a really good player when Arsenal signed him though. He was brilliant in the 2002 World Cup as well. He just hasn't really been able to do it in English football. I see the point you're making and yeah, it's true, but Inamoto is a bad example.

I can't believe that everyone has called him overrated yet so far no-one has said that all the hype about him is "much Adu about nothing".

I do beg your pardon but I needed to get that out of the way.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I think its a good move by United, gets them a bigger foothold in the potentially massive market in the USA. He could even turn out to be a cracking player. He may also be overhyped as you say. But it surely must be worth the chance. Its the kind of move i wish we were making.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                  * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

It's precisely for this reason that I don't want him to have anything to do with the Premiership....

Do you work for a tabloid Neil?
I remember when Bjorn Tore Kvarme signed for us, a mate of mine was hoping he'd score on his debut so the tabloids could use the headline
                        "Instant Kvarme"

That was equally as poor though.

Instead, sadly for us they ended up using the other headline:

                            "Bad Kvarme"

What about the day after the Press Conference, showing Taggart and new signing shaking hands:

How do you Adu? Freddie signs in at United.
