I think his play for England suggests he could do a good job as part of a deeper pair if Rodgers is willing to invert his midfield triangle and push Sahin forward.

I have to say I quite enjoy the fact that Roy's (semi-successful) solution to the Lampard - Gerrard problem in midfield is to add another defensively undisciplined central midfielder in front of them. We had so little control in midfield it was almost amusing. I found the game quite enjoyable as a consequence. I actually think given the group we have if one of Young, Sturridge or Walcott is available to over goal scoring capabilities from the wing (or Hodgson is willing to follow United and play Welbeck there) we'll win the group quite easily.

I didn't see enough of Swansea to give a definitive statement but with us he has looked to be trying to get one deep two further forward as the default. His long interview post Arsenal (which is in the BR thread) also suggests that is a/ his default and b/ what he tried to implement first half against them. He also said he might have to compromise due to the players available to him.

What's happened to Young recently? Is he injured?

            I am, as it happens.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I hope you're not laid up for too much longer, Mr Young. It's been a while since I've seen you don an England or Manchester United jersey.
