Muddies the water far too much for me. All sorts of payments flying around to players that are not even under contract to the person paying. Confusing trails of cash going all over the place and if clubs can pay players to do it then you can be sure that gambling syndicates will look for a way in too.

FFS, on at least 1 occasion a player has been banned for betting on his own team to WIN. And he is talking of the possibility of allowing a club not involved in the game to offer financial incentives to a different team.

Does not sit well with me at all.

It confers an advantage to wealthier teams. Not sure we need any more of that.

it's far worse than that. It opens the door wide open to bribery and match fixing. A payment incentive to win, known up front, is no different to an incentive to lose in some circumstances. So its known that city pay the biggest 'rewards' for winning, a team can hold other to random. Players could know what of they win one game they will get 50k from utd but know that city might withdraw their offer of 150k for another match. Etc.

the ethics of it are very dodgy, at best.
it is possibly open to some very underhanded abuse by some of the many iffy rich geezers in the game

Massive bonuses for success - what could go wrong?
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

                Absolutely agree

Is that not also conferring advantage to the wealthiest teams though?

I suppose opening up the game to bribery would indeed favour those with more money, yes.
