I agree with many of the sentiments above and I’d love to see Robinson given a go in the team. I certainly think he’s going to be a great player in the future and I’m delighted that – all being well – we have our LB position secure for the next decade.

However I can see why Rodgers hasn’t given him much of an opportunity so far. Primarily I think it comes down to Rodgers wanting a system that’s flexible. Playing Johnson LB and Wisdom at RB means the system can easily be changed to a three at the back as Wisdom can come inside. Furthermore, Johnson usually plays very high up the pitch and – in some games this season – has almost played like an outside left forward. This set-up requires a RB that can tuck inside comfortably so Agger can pull left. Wisdom is ideally suited to this, as would be Kelly if he were fit. I think this also explains why Wisdom has been preferred to Coates in a back three – because the formation can be changed easily without changing personal.

Robinson is at a disadvantage because he can’t play CB, unlike Wisdom/Kelly, so he doesn’t offer that stability and flexibility. If Johnson were injured and we had a more defensive full-back on the other side, I think we might see more of him. Likewise, when Lucas returns, the added solidity in CM will provide more defensive cover and allow us to unleash more attacking full-backs. We might then get to see Robinson on the left and Johnson on the right.

Transfer News: Wolves line up Liverpool full-back Jack Robinson on loan

Sky Sports understands Wolves are lining up a move to sign Liverpool's teenage full-back Jack Robinson on loan.

Robinson became Liverpool's youngest player when he made his debut as a 16-year-old against Hull City in the Premier League in May 2010.

However, the left-back has yet to establish himself as a regular and has made a total of 11 appearances in all competitions for the Reds.

He has not been involved in the league this season under Brendan Rodgers, but has featured twice in the FA Cup, Capital One Cup and Europa League.

The promising defender could now be allowed out of Anfield to gain more first-team experience, with former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders plotting a loan move.

Wolves boss Saunders is keen to strengthen his squad in the fight for Championship survival and his side face fellow strugglers Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Good move for him. I have high hopes but he needs games.

I think he can make it with us but he won't kick on by playing reserve footy.

Would be a good move. It will toughen him up and little too.

In the Oldham game, Suarez was (rightly) pissed off when Robinson chose to have a wild effort rather than pass to him and he just told Luis to **** off.

Our LB 'cover' is better than our LB.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                              Harsh.

On his day, Enrique is a more than capable left-back as long as he realises that it's ok to just stick a foot out and knock the ball out of play rather than getting into shoulder-wrestling matches with everyone trying to get past him.

I was on about Johnson though.

If one more capable and reliable player, able to play on either side, then I think we'd be well covered at FB.
