Europa League - Tottenham fans 'stabbed' in Rome attack
Ten Tottenham Hotspur fans were injured, one seriously, in an attack in the early hours of Thursday ahead of the Europa League match against Lazio in Rome.
Police said a group of masked assailants attacked the 10 - nine British and one American - outside a pub in the centre of Rome.
Two men were believed to have been stabbed. One suffered injuries to an artery and is in a serious condition - he has been named as Ashley Mills.
Seven fans were taken to three different hospitals in Rome - San Camillo, Santo Spirito and Fatebenefratelli. Three of the injured men were named as Dave Lesley, Stephen Tierney and Christopher Allen.
Reports said between 30 and 50 Lazio 'ultras' attacked the men armed with knives, baseball bats, belts and knuckle dusters.
The incident took place outside the Drunken Ship pub, which was subsequently wrecked.
An eyewitness told the AGI news agency:"They were everywhere, a group of them didn't let anybody enter or leave (the pub). It all lasted a few minutes".
A police spokesman declined to identify the attackers but said a number of Italians who were involved in the fight had been detained.
